Sumi good luck with the house hunt! How are your egglets doing?

So I am fighting cocci in my little flock. I was planning on worming everyone but will be holding off now that they are getting treated for cocci. I decided to treat every one of them instead of just the ones I knew to be sick since I am pretty sure one of the bigger ones has it as well. I got a new rooster this last weekend and he is in quarantine for a few weeks. I also added eggs in with the eggs I already had going. I think I am going to get a still air and use it as a hatcher. Now I can keep eggs going in a constant rotation.

chicks what is your treatment plan? what were their symptoms?

awwwww  I was so upset when we moved and had to give my chickens to the farmer for slaughter : ( I had no choice, no one would help me get the coop out and bring it up on the property and then when the day came we had 2 foot of snow and there was no way we could get it from down the hill. :hit   I had all bantams, I swore I wouldnt get anymore of the little ones since I had such bad luck with them, but I think that is a mistake as these LF eat and poo ALOT!!! :lau

Moving them was definitely a chore & moving the coops.... Was a nightmare!

Hey Sally, I have a question. How the heck do I candle the 42 eggs in the hovabator without Tue temp dropping? I'm afraid it will take too long for the temp to go back up. I just crack the lid and slip an egg out to candle, but I haven't done a hatch this large. By the time I get to egg 42, I'm afraid it will be low from cracking the lid so many times. Any suggestions?

On a good note... I randomly selected 6 eggs last night from different areas around the incubator and they were all starting. I have the other eggs in the homemade and candled 2 and bingo! Fertile!

Just crack the lid and pull an egg out. The eggs are all at temp so it does not take the bator temp long to go back to normal. If you left the lid off the candle all the eggs it would take a lot longer for the temp to return to normal.

They are 8 week olds. Left for the weekend and came home to bloody poops and hunched up chicks fluffed up and necks drawn in. I started them on sulmet as that was what I had on hand and medicated chick starter. Was pretty sure one of them would not make it thru the night monday but by tuesday morning was a lot perkier. I got corid at the feed store and started everyone on that yesterday. Oh and cooked chicken livers since they were really pale so maybe anemic. Everyone seems so much better this morning. Oh and they get new bedding a couple times a day and I will be doing a whole coop/run clean out tomorrow or Friday after they have had a couple days of the corid. Yay coop clean out! At least it is almost garden season so it is going to good use in the compost pile.
 
I opened one of the vent holes in the bottom and the temperature dropped to 100 even, but now the humidity is only 51%

Man incubators are tricky little things.
