Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

So one of my lockdown eggs had developed a crack. It's not in a pip area. It's just below mid line...goes around half the egg. A small chunk of shell also fell off and I can see black feathers no beak ( w the flashlight while in the bator) through the white membrane. I went ahead and put a small piece of damp paper towel over the chunk. What if anything should I do? Btw it's day 21.

One of my sebastopol goose eggs is developing!

I canlded (day 8) and egg R is clear, but I saw a heart beating in egg S! There still have 25 days to go, and I know a lot can go wrong during that time, but my hopes are high and I will do everything in my power to give that little egg the best chance of hatching.

What worries me most is that with shipped eggs, I always end up with a bunch of quitters and non-hatchers. This egg was beat up worse than most of my shipped eggs and has a horrible air cell.

I almost feel bad reporting my update. You know 3D, if you got yourself a roo when Hope is bigger, you could start a chick business there from the sounds of it. Are you not allowed to have a roo because of your parents or the neighborhood?

Here's my update from candling 62 eggs. 46 of them are fertile and growing. I may have a few quitters (3). And some that don't look as advanced as most in development. These eggs were 16 days old and forward. Interestingly, all the eggs that weren't fertile were from my young roo. But... His last 10 are fertile. I think this in combo with the cold weather plus the age of egg, would indicate that he will be successful from this point forward. Another note... He is sizeably larger that two of the hens. I'll keep updateing! Day 6
46! Awesome!
