Hey, Sumi sent me, I am looking for a hatch buddy to do a logged hatch a long with, where we can keep log of everyting we do, humididty, tempature, turn times etc...I was just wondering if anyone wanted to partner up to do it?

Sounds like work to me.

I am a mad scientist and I would be willing to do that with you also Matilda - as long as I can get the hatch done before my easter-egg run to the Philippines - and I have someone to give the chicks to. I will have 30 experiments in the bator come Sunday and I think I may me overrunning OffGridMMAMA with chickens. Just let me know when - we should make a hatch-a-long thread to document in.

Today I received some laboratory cartridges that analyze oxygen in the blood - that sort of excess info but the box is a 4 inch thick styro box with foam inserts and an inner chamber with the cartridges in it. The external box is 24 x 24 x 18. The internal box is 6 x 6 x 10. Inside the small box there is a foam cut out where another box is 4 x 4 x 8. These guys are serious about their packaging.

Now all of this was to ensure the cartridges were at ambient temp. There are to gadgets in there that trigger abnormal temps - one at 2C (37F) and the other at 30C (86F). I have also seen "shake-o-meters"

It would be great if egg shippers could use such methods.

My little lone early bird chick is still waiting in the incubator for the others to hatch...no pips yet. Should I take him out real quick and put him in the brooder or just leave him. He's in a mini advance so not much room to move around. Hatched about 3 am this morning?

Hi Matilda Hen! We are always hatching, we have set some Amercauna this week and silkies go into lockdown sunday I think LOL and then we keep adding eggs to the bator since we can hatch them in the other bator turned hatcher!

I dont see why not! Just do i fast, humidity should up quickly in that

Coops are clean at least for a week or two! I found a few eggs hiding in the straw! stinkers!! frozen and gross into the woods they went!
My cochins eggs are already bigger than my layer pen so I will start setting them along with any silkie eggs I collect! So at least its starting slooooowwwwly!!

I wish I had known what I do now and I would not have a "layer pen" per say,
I would def do Pure Splash/blue Ameraucana Roo's and blue hens and adding a few maran hens or OE's and barredrocks
This would give me the ability to sell the eggies for pure A's and OE's for hatching! The barred are thrown in there for tan color and I LOVE my Rocks!

Thoughts on this combo????
Sounds good to me! I need eggs! AHHH

I cannot believe how hard it is to get eggs to PEI. I have been looking hard for you 3D. If all else fails, I am going to Quebec in August and will personally ship them even if I have to bring them from New Hampshire.

Chickens must be real scarce in Canada - nobody wants to share.

I almost feel bad reporting my update. You know 3D, if you got yourself a roo when Hope is bigger, you could start a chick business there from the sounds of it. Are you not allowed to have a roo because of your parents or the neighborhood?

Here's my update from candling 62 eggs. 46 of them are fertile and growing. I may have a few quitters (3). And some that don't look as advanced as most in development. These eggs were 16 days old and forward. Interestingly, all the eggs that weren't fertile were from my young roo. But... His last 10 are fertile. I think this in combo with the cold weather plus the age of egg, would indicate that he will be successful from this point forward. Another note... He is sizeably larger that two of the hens. I'll keep updateing! Day 6
