Cute chickies. Can't wait to see Halo.

Here goes my depraved mind... I keep thinking that when you post the picture of him, the only thing that is going to go through my mind is the song "I can see your Halo, Halo, Halo..."

tdhenson-where in the state of Michigan is Paw Paw? I go to MI every summer and have never heard of it.

Ha ha ha... It's a TINY town. Population is about 3,000 to 3,500. I actually live in the country about 10 miles outside of town, so I'm in an even smaller, rural part of Michigan. Paw Paw itself is about 15 miles west of Kalamazoo right off of I-94. Where I live is about 25 miles from Kalamazoo.

You all are so funny!

Halo is still Laying there and occasionally trying to move but his eyes are not open. is that normal and his little mouth is moving like he is talking but he isn't, I see his foot now and it even has a tiny bit of blood on it and his bottom shell that he is in yet is crushed a bit now because somehow he rolled out of that egg carton I had him in, I think it would have been fine in the carton had there been more eggs but he was in the end of one I cut in half. I could have tacked it down but wasn't thinking about that! Now I prob killed him with that stupid carton. he is one ugly hatching bird, lol he better make it and fluff the heck up soon!!! This is gonna be another long night isn't it???

NOTES: CANNOT keep the humidity under 70!! even turned the dehumidifier back on!!! will he drown if he is out and get pneumonia????

I am going to look for something that has AA batteries!!!!! Hubby will kill me if I take his stupid remote!!!!!

After 21 days of incubation, the chick finally begins its escape from the shell. The chick begins by pushing its beak through the air cell. The allantois, which has served as its lungs, begins to dry up as the chick uses its own lungs. The chick continues to push its head outward. The sharp horny structure on the upper beak (egg tooth) and the muscle on the back of the neck help cut the shell. The chick rests, changes position, and keeps cutting until its head falls free of the opened shell. It then kicks free of the bottom portion of the shell. The chick is exhausted and rests while the navel openings heal and its down dries. Gradually, it regains strength and walks. The incubation and hatching is complete. The horny cap will fall off the beak within days after the chick hatches.http://msucares.com/poultry/reproductions/poultry_chicks_embryo.html
