AWESOME COCH!!!Hey, you know how I told you guys that my sebastopol goose embryo died? Well I may have false hope, but there's a chance that it's still alive! I candled tonight because I had planned to crack it open. It's been too long, and it's not worth wasting electricity on the incubator. Well anyways, I candled it and saw a striking red line. I figured great, a blood ring is beginning to form, but then after I looked closer, I think that I saw lighter veining and possible movement (it could have been me moving the egg). It may just be me seeing things since I wanted this goose soo badly, but at least I have hope again. I think it should be more developed by now, but if it's alive then I'll be happy. I'll candle again tomorrow night.
YAY!!!Ducks pipped!! Got home from work and found them!!
DOUBLE YAY!!!Ok, I couldn't help myself. I candled again and I saw multiple bright red veins!![]()
awwww CONGRATS SUMI!!!5 Out of 6 hatched in the end. I've just about given up on the last egg. I candled it yesterday evening and it didn't look promising, but I left it in the 'bator overnight to see. The 5th chick was so malpositioned I candled and couldn't find the air sac, so I opened the fat end of the egg to see and the first thing I saw was a leg, worked my way round to the beak, cleared it so chick can breathe and left her like that for a few hours, still twisted in an impossible position. I didn't dare clear her head in case she decided to come out by herself, before she was ready. I finally helped her out latish yesterday evening and left her in the incubator to catch her breath before putting her in the brooder later. When I checked on them this morning she was fine. Still a little wobbly, but she's o.k.
I snapped some pics quick, one individual and one of them in the brooder. I turned the heat lamp off for the pic, so excuse the quality!

I hear those "shamWows" do a wonderful job too!BTW, Sally, remember I said I battled a bit to get the humidity high enough during lockdown? I tried something yesterday. I took piece of toilet paper, maybe 5 or 6 sheets and I dipped it in water, bunched it up, to squeeze some of the the water out, so it doesn't drip and placed that in the bator. Humidity shot up by 10%.
Ok, I couldn't help myself. I candled again and I saw multiple bright red veins!![]()

They are in Iowa I think. They shipped Monday and arrived Tuesday, so color me impressed. All 27 chicks arrived healthy and are napping happily. Were they all alive? What state is that place in?
22/25 is a very good hatch, congrats! I hope your chick will make it and you'll feel better soonI have 22 out of 25 hatched and in the brooder. I had 1 that pipped then died. I think it hit a vein because there was a lot of blood.2 that never pipped. Then I had 5 that shrink wrapped. I started working on them about 10:30 last night. Got 4 out and wrapped in warm moist towels. The 5th one kept bleeding when I worked on the membrane but I think the membrane was so dry that it couldn't absorb the rest of the blood. I left her in her shell and went to bed around midnight. The dog barked at 3:30am and after loosing my cockerel the night before I put her out to chase off whatever she heard. (All are present and accounted for this morning). I finished helping the last chick out of her shell after putting the dog out. There was lots of blood and I figured she would be dead this morning. She survived the night and managed to kick out of all the paper towels. She has lots of dried blood and gunk on her so she got a warm bath and I put veterecine on what was left of her umbilical and wrapped her in dry towels and added her to the brooder. I am giving her lots of save a chick in the hopes she perks up. She is cuddled with everyone else so hoping and praying she makes it.![]()

Sally I didn't take a single pic. I am sick as can be and taking everything I can get my little hands on and at 3:30 this morning it wasn't happening. It would have made great learning material.
