Do they eat less feed this way? Do you save on feed?

I haven't noticed a huge difference in the amount fed at this point. I've only been feeding FF for two weeks. I'm sure it doesn't help that its freezing here right now and the buggies are hibernating too. :D

One of my flocks turned their noses up initially too it but after two days, they started running after me looking for it. I will say that in two weeks, I have noticed extremely bright red combs and waddles. I didn't believe that they could get any redder as they were previously colored nicely. Wow... Big difference. My thoughts, if there are cosmetic differences this soon... It can only mean they are absorbing nutrients and probiotics much more efficiently. It's worth trying for sure.

the cochins must have heard me giving them the ultimatum. i have 7 blue black chicks fluffing up.

Yay! Woo hoo!

Gosling Update:

I took the top off, then I smeared antibiotic sab onto the membrane with a Q tip.  I can see the baby perfectly, but those bloods vessels are really intimidating.  He hasn't internally pipped yet and there was no brown spot on the membrane.  The gosling is correctly positioned with it's beak near the air cell in the lower section.  He's back in the incubator.  I think I'll see if he pips himself first, because I don't want to hit those veins.  There's a little bit of fluid left, but not much.

Ol
Do u have a pic and did you open the rest of them? did you get its beak out or did it get its beak out? Have you candled the rest any other internal pips or chirps? for that one go ahead and open the top of the air cell completely so you can use a qtip and antibotic ointment not with pain killer though... to keep it wet at this point...... as long as its breathing its fine.... you will just keep watching that membrane and when you dont see any prominent veiing go ahead and peal it from beak to sides and if you get blood put back in the bator and follow those assist steps inthe article..... I can tell everyone I now use oinment EVERYtIME you cant beat it and havent lost a single assist since I started it! but I do have quite a ton of assists undermy belt and a great sense of time and the waiting game!
I will also add that I have recently switched from using sterile water in an assist to using Q-tips or "Ear Buds", and adding antibacterial ointment to inner membranes, because you do NOT have to keep wetting them and you can see in the pic below that the ointment makes that membrane clear, and it is ANTIBIOTIC it wont have bacteria in it that water can!
DO NOT USE OINTMENT WITH PAIN KILLER!
See BELOW the clear look with the ointment? You can really see how they are progressing without opening the bator, also you can see the chick on the right has much more time to go than the chick on the left by easily viewing their veining.
NEVER remove this membrane until THOSE VEINS RECEDE and blood is absorbed!

[/quot Here are all three that I opened... The two in the back still have a lot of veins and the one to the right still has a lot of yolk sack. The one in front is the chick that's beak is out going to put ointment on their membranes and hopefully they will continue to do their thing. Going to possibly try and help the one that has its beak out.

Ok y'all... Most of my eggs look like this. Strong veins still showing. What do u think is the problem? Day 23 - applied ointment to membranes and place them back in incubator. Need a little walk through advice!

My guess would be too low of temps during days 1-18. Definitely looks like they need more time. What day / time did you put them in the incubator?
