then she is breathing so far, let her be, your gooser baby may need WELL OVER hrs as she is! keep up the humidity if you have no other eggs in there up it to 80 now, she cant drown any longer.

I will pray she can make this important transition from embryo to sweetness for you cochins!!

I'll have to fill every section plus use sponges to get the humidity that high! haha. It's winter so the humidity without water is 10%. And yes, she's the only egg.

I imagine that she'll probably need at least 2 days in that shell. Celtic Oaks said that goslings take longer than chicks. These next 2 days are going to be very stressful...

I can't thank you enough for all of your help.

sterling I would continue to do what you did for the first one, you are the only one that knew what it looked like, when the others look like it did then do the same....

HOWEVER I dont suggest rushing them out of the shell, get them breathing and wait until tomorrow morning and see if their is any more blood.

I have found that it takes a good 24+ hrs for a chick to absorbe and acclimate AFTER the internal pip!

They are moving and looking good. I've opened 5 eggs so far that seem to be all at the same stage... Very predominant veins. Should I open the rest or leave them in their shells? Thanks again so much for all the help! There is no way I could do this without y'all!! Also how often do I need to apply the ointment? I just applied it to the ones I opened. Also humidity is 75%. Is that ok or to high?

Quote: like i said before, its your call because you are actually viewing whats going on in them..... Its a hard call to make at this point.

The one that you cleared its beak, are the others the same as this was as far as wetness and veining?

I would say every 6-8 hours for ointment as it lasts.

Hey Sally,

How long have you been using the antibiotic ointment for membranes? After I put it on, a few questions came to mind.

What if the antibiotic is absorbed into the blood stream? Could an overdose kill the embryo?

Maybe I'm over thinking things, but I'd love to hear you opinion on this. It definitely keeps the membrane moist for a much longer time period but maybe something like extra virgin olive oil would do the same thing.
