(NOTES: Rain outside finally, but causing me issues with the bator already! Opened the 2nd VENT plug because humidity keeps going above 50% averaging 52/55% TRYING to keep it at 46/48% Turned the room dehumidifier and am letting it run without setting the % levels. Wondering if its not also do to adding the eggs. Temperature is slowly leveling to where I want it 99.5)
Yes adding eggs will change it and rain probably even more in a basement
Personal observation ;.For me the more eggs i have in the more stable my temp and humidity seems to be.I have 18 in my Hovabator with fan and its humming along at 99.1 and humiditys dropping really slowly (Day 2)

Seems like when ppl who have posted on here add the eggs it all starts jumping around for a few days

By the way Mnmpoultry said it all very WELL!!!Not a thing to add.

Definitely: More eggs = More thermal mass = More stable temps

You'll find also that more eggs (thermal mass) will make the incubator come back to temp faster after being open and temp dropping. :)

Edit: It may look like the temp is lower after adding new eggs, but it takes longer to bring an egg up to temp vs. bringing air up to temp. :D It'll take a bit longer to get up to temp after adding, but after it's up to temp, it'll come back to temp faster.

Awesome! Thank you!!! I will just keep a close eye on it, I dont want to take water out of it since I only have the one small area filled and I sure dont want to disturb those detached eggs. I could get it out but then I am afraid it will be overkill no pun intended ugggg : ( Appreciate your time!)

I love ppl on here... so knowledgeable!!!I learn somethign new everyday,Thanks for the explanation.I only found it by using 6 and 8 eggs then getting 14-30 In and wallah !!SO much better
Didnt drive me crazy
.All makes such sense.
One question if you put the eggs in (room temp eggs)...dont they cause the air in the bator to cool toward room temp first then up to the bator temp?

Yes. You're putting in a cooler thermal mass, so that mass has to be heated up before the air temp in the incubator will stabilize where it should be, but, it also takes the existing eggs some time to cool down, so the essentially meet in the middle and then come back up to temp. It's nothing to really fret about, because it's really just similar to a broody hen hopping off the nest for a bit to go forage, eat, drink, whatever. :)

Some people say don't candle too often, because you "shouldn't have the incubator open long or have the eggs out in room temp air too much, but that doesn't make sense as a hen won't sit on the eggs constantly for 21 days straight.

Certainly makes sense. I have never let any hens set on any eggs as of yet so I dont really know their habits, but one should assume they have to eat poop and drink like us! lol Thanks The dehumidifier is already making a difference, just have to watch that it doesnt take too much out of the air... will keep checking every hour to make sure its getting stabilized.

Tthere is a new thinking about the cooling at times...Brinsea even has made an incubator now with a cool down setting i read you get a 3% better hatch rate with some cool off time Ao since i read that i am not too worried about opening the inchubator. The study i saw said sometimes hens get off the eggs for over 6 hours !

I've seen hens hop off the nest at 7:00 am when I open the door and not get back on them until it gets dark out. This is in springtime, too, when the weather is 60-70 degrees out. :) There's a saying that holds true to many things, and this is one of them: "Keep it simple, silly."

I pretty well try to use that saying in everything I approach. Simple is better. :)

"Keep it simple, silly" Will try.... uggg Dad made me into such a perfectionist, always trying to please him or get my "ars" beat!
