Is the cell still detached and "floating" through the egg as your turn it? Go ahead and try putting it back upright if so. :) It's probably not too late.

No I don't think it is. I am going to candle it again tonight and if it moves I will put back in a carton.

sorry, I hadnt known that it could get this bad or I woulda just ordered peeps! I am thinking about emptyin the water its so rainy and I cant get under50/52% what does yours run at? I set up a syrynge so I can add and drain through aquarium tubing, but not sure I should!

Oh I think you're fine! Down where we are humidity often runs at 80degrees+ (in the natural air) so I think ours is a special case because of our geographical location, plus an extremely awesome hubbie who watches our electric bill so we run our a/c at 80 degrees - think HOT and HUMID

. I can't tell you what the internal humidity of the bator was because we did not measure it, we just followed the instructions and filled it with water as per instructions. Our first two hatches were awful and then we removed water for our next one, which helped significantly, so we haven't used water since

I think you're going to be fine!!! Enjoy the process. Wait till day 6/7 when you candle - I am sure that you are going to have some success. The experts can advise you on whether you should remove the water ... I, personally think that 52% is just fine. I know you will probably think I'm crazy, but they have done experiments with plants and played music - soft, classical type music - which had an influence on how well the plants grew. Play some really lovely, soothing, spa like music in the room you have the bator, so it not only helps your chickies (I know that's a debatable concept), but creates an atmosphere of calm so when you walk into the room it relaxes you so you can think clearly and not stress about the process, but enjoy it :)

p.s I love you post and am so looking forward to seeing how things progress - this thread is already full of AWESOME info!!!
p.p.s ... I've don't both ie bought day old chicks and incubate and there is NOTHING like hatching your own chicks ... I promise it will be worth all the stress!!!

Tomorrow at 10:30 am the eggs will have been in the bator UNTURNED for a total of 48 hours ....

QUESTION: is do I wait another 48 hours no turning for a total of 4 days UNTURNED or start after the 48 hrs!

I think I will keep upright in cartons and after the 48 start to lean them gently to the opposite side they are leaning now (since they are tiny silkie eggs they lay over a tad in those big egg holes) ! and continue that kind of turning 3x day until lockdown.

Candle at day 7 or 10? If I wait until 10days could I have an egg blow up and contaminate?

thoughts ??? on all of the above

My thoughts (for all they're worth - ha ha ha ha) are as follows:

1) Don't doubt yourself!! You made a decision to keep those biddies still for 3 days because of the air cell damage, so stick with the plan. The experts who have experimented with eggs like this said that they had more success with keeping them still for the first 3 days

2) I read somewhere in this post that they keep the eggs upright for the entire duration of the hatch (did I remember correctly

) ..... anyway, I know we have had chicks hatch in the egg turner trays (by mistake) very successfully, so I don't think it's going to make a HUGE difference (again, someone may correct me if I'm wrong with encouraging that sentiment)

3) I would candle at day 6, not because I would be scared of opening the bator, but because you may get really really discouraged by not seeing anything forming in the eggs in the early days. I have learned that my emotions can't take it so I wait until day 6 to candle.

4) I have not had the thousands of eggs through my bator like some people, but in my limited experience I have never had an egg explode in my bator in 10 days. I think you'll be fine waiting 10 days if you want :)

4) Enjoy yourself

KEEP upright in carton entire bator time was in allllll the egg cell help info articles I found.... so I will keep them in the carton, this I know!!
I got the humidity down to about 49% w/o emptying the only filled section, yay for that at least!!
When I candle can I candle them in the "upright" position and still be able to see what I need to?
Headboard! LOL what about my cute babies?? lmao!! tooo funny!! I made that years ago out of old dirty mushroom house boards! will always have it!! so simple to do with any "old wood" or real barndoors from Craigslist!!! But I am too cheap!! lol

LOL!!!! Your babies are toooooo cute, it's just that the headboard was screaming my name!!!! I've just read your signature - 5 kids!!! Yay - me toooooo!!!! Cannot even WAIT for the results of your first candle. My eggs should be arriving today (yooooohoooo). I'll post pics when they arrive!

I will pray that they are in great shape!!! yes pics pics!! what kind did u order, I forget if u said or not! I read way too much!! he he he how far are they traveling and by usps? let me know how they packaged too, and outside of the box! lol curious!! details!

I have two older sons already out of college and we have a 12,7 and 4 year old!! glutton for punishment! he he! AND I Babysit!!

So I have my eggs back in a carton. How will you "turn" them. I have propped a side up slightly but that just does not seem like much.

I pulled 2 duds out last night after candling everyone. Found some crazy airsacs. I am on day 12 so everything airsac related is easy to see now. I have learned a lot through this process. I just hope somebody makes it out of an egg.
