Sorry to interrupt your thread but I need help. I saw that Sally is not on for a day. heres a copy of my post on a thread with some people who started a hatch along on the 2/16. I had eggs in on the 14th. I am new to this and don't want to kill the chicks if I can help it. Any suggestions are apprecited.
Sally Please help!!
First thank you for sharing all your knowledge your a great person. Thanks to you 3 chicks are alive and well. but 4 are in trouble. 3 should be ok but the one in the fluid is worrying me. Is he too soon. though hes a day 2/14 chick.
Here is my recent post in the hatch along.
Thank you for suggesting the Sally Sunshine article. I must of read it 10 times. I finaly had two chicks dated the 16th pip and 14 hrs. later zip and they are doing great!!
Then it seems the two eggs from the 15th are having problems. I could faintly hear them inside so decided to see if they needed assistance per Sally Sunshine article.
Its a good thing I checked. I scored a small opening and it seems as if they were stuck under the membrane. Shrink wrap???? I carefully zipped the end cap as if they would zip and I then softened the membrane with warm water and then wrapped the shells with wet paper towels and continune to hydrate ever hour on the hour.Once I saw that the blood veins were absorbed I helped roll down the the tight membrane passed the wings and within an hour they were both out

So thats 4 chickies

I then have 5 remaining eggs from the 14th. I candeled them and noticed a huge air space. oh no! are they shrink wraping too?
I did the float test and they seemed good so I made a small score on them same thing except one seems to have alot of fluid inside and thick veins???? Super late chick???
I piped and zipped the 4 leaving the cap on for them to removed them selfs and hydrated the membranes. jaked up the humidity to 80 degrees and wrapped the eggs in warm wet paper towels.
As for the the one with the fluid inside, and the chick is moving, do I give him a small hole to breath or is he still growing and is just super late forming? Does he need help?

What is that fluid is it bad??

I think I will make my next bator myself. this little giant is such pain in my a##.

I installed a cpu fan. It was hard to keep the temp at 99-100 and the humidity 30 -45 throughout. I removed the turner on day18 for the day 2/14 chicks and upped the humidity to 60-75.
.

I agree, try to get a picture. What do the veins look like? Are they a bright red? A dark red? A super dark red? The vein color will tell you whether or not you need to make a breathing hole.

Also, are you using an antibiotic to keep the membranes moist? or just water?

if its new and the only one, see if you can get the other chick out if its dry.
Umm, the chick isn't dry, but can I take it out and examine her bum/replace her paper towel/put more polysporin on her bum?

I've got about 10 tanks up and going in my bedroom. The biggest being 125 gallons. Fish keeping is my 'other' hobby, haha.

Always the constant buzzing sound of the air pumps and splashing of the filters.
TEN?!?!

What kind of fish? And isn't that expensive??

, i will send the pics in about 5-10 mins.
one out of the 4 chicks that I pipped, zipped and soaked with damp papper towel just popped out.
Yes he does seem to have a stickiness to him but he is very vocal and walking on his legs already.
so now I have two that I pipped, zipped and soaking with damp papper towel them membrane still tight to them and the other one that I have not cut the membrane because im not sure he is the one that is in fluid... I'll go take and then send pics now

Should I take my chick with the bum/naval problem out and check/clean with polysporin it? I also want to change the paper towel she is on.

I keep mainly koi and goldfish, but I have also had others over the years such as bettas, knife fish, gouramis, live bearers, blue lobsters, cave fish, and many others.

It does get expensive sometimes, just like the chickens. Some of my fish are worth well over $100 a piece. I keep the koi in the 125 gallon tank and then put them in a pond in the summer. Then I have a 55 gallon tank for my fan-tail goldfish and another 55 gallon tank for raising baby koi. I also have a few 20 gallon tanks for isolating new fish and a bunch of 10 gallon tanks for breeding bettas and livebearers.

I also have a stock tank in the garage full of goldfish that go in the pond every summer. They're about 5 - 8 inches and there's probably about 40 of them. If you want to talk fish, pm me, haha.
