Quote: Don't turn them let them go during lockdown of others, there most important turning stage is almost over. If you would want to turn, you can do that, just mist the side or top of the bator to keep that instant boost humidity to the eggs, don't open once you see the first pips though. I always lay the eggs for hatching with the lower dip in the air cell up so I can see pipping, normally they roll to this position but most of us use rubber mats in the bators.

who is setting them for you and why arent you? LOL

Well, it seems I haven't been over here in 3 days.

I really wanted Call Ducklings, and would have tried hatching them myself, but I read they are the hardest to hatch of the ducks. Their bill is tiny, so they often pip internally, and can't reach to zip. So, I placed an ad on Craigslist, and out of the few responses I got, picked a lady that I liked to set them for me. So,around the 13th I should have 4. Ray already collected pallets to start the duck hut! A friend brought the pond to church Sunday. It's starting to come together now!
AWESOME!

Someone asked about my hatch rates. I have always flipped my eggs and I have had a couple 100% hatch rates. I understand that in nature, the eggs roll, but I wouldn't go as far as saying that flipping the eggs would ruin a hatch. The automatic egg turners flip eggs at a 45 degree angle, so what's the difference between that and the full 180 degrees? I always investigate why any embryo dies and I have never seen a torn membrane.

I don't want to start on argument.. I just want to share my opinions and experience.
me either coch lol!

I dont have an auto turner but I don't think they flip the eggs end over end, as the large end/air cell is never below the degree of turning. but like I said I don't have a turner even though I really want one now since Harmony isn't into it much anymore! its becoming a pain!

hmm.. Maybe we have different ideas of "flipping" eggs. This is what I do. An egg lies on it's side with the letter X facing up. I grab the large end of the egg, lift up, and then lay the egg back down so that the opposite side is facing up.

Getting the Flock Out of Here II - The Mother Lode

Its T-3 days until take off and the second phase of my crazy plan is upon us.

This morning I received 8 emails with tracking numbers. Cloacae all over the United States of America have been depositing Calcium Carbonated embryos big end first into nests for the last few days. The owners of the owners of these Cloaca have been diligently collecting the eggs, storing them carefully, turning them appropriately and packaging them carefully. Today, they place them in the hands of people in sky blue and grey uniforms who will lob, pass, punt and dropkick them into the delivery system known as the USPS.

May God have mercy on those embryos
