Thanks guys. Their mom just came to collect them

It was sad to see them go. After having some of them for 3 days we grew quite fond of them. I was tempted to ask if we can have one instead of cash as payment, but it's not practical at the moment.. It looks like I'll be doing another batch for her soon though. In the meantime I'm going to take at least half the eggs from my broody tonight while she's sleeping and won't freak out (hopefully), candle them and put any viable ones in the incubator. She cannot hatch out all 24 eggs. It's too much.
awwwww! but glad the cash came!

I was thinking the same thing! Black betty got up when I ran out to see if I had any eggs and she has 10 under her again! speckles is just going to town laying! she is the splash hen.
I didn't mark the orignals, I keep procrastinating as it got so cold again! now they want it warmer I pray I can tell who is who! and I too will pull the unmarks and add to the bator, but whatever do I do with a zillion cochin babies!!!

I talked to DH about brahma last night, as I haven't been getting eggs! Harmony found 2 and dropped them! GOLDEN eggs! had to be those right! anyways..... here since he put the window in the coop he turned the timer off for the light! so they are all screwed up!

and then he says "ummm I unplugged the one in the layer coop" NO WONDER I am only getting 4 eggs a day! funny part is he said this...

"well its daylight savings time, so they gained an hour" I WAS LIKE... he DID NOT FREAKING SAY THAT, tell me he DID NOT JUST SAY THAT!! so add that to the pile of pokes I can give him!

Also careful with the drakes and your hens. A drake will kill a hen trying to mate. One of the biggest reasons I got the ducks out of the chicken pen. Have not experienced it but was told by several that it could happen.

How old is he? I would think too young but his grabbing the back of her head made me think of that.
its what it looked like too now that you said that! never crossed my mind!

he has his drake feathers for a month now, he was born nov.

Update: all 9 ducklings hatched

My first 100% hatch in an incubator. Their mom's coming to pick them up in 30mins and I'm a little bit sad... I've grown quite fond of them, especially the first born! Here's the first 8:

OMGoodness! How Cute! This makes me even more excited for mine to hatch!!

Just had 3.5 ton coal delivered! thank God that's done and overwith until next spring! 230. a ton and that's cheap here.
Where do you store all of it? I imagine that is quite some pile!!
Now I get it....

LOL Mich! oh and 3.5 coal fits in a bin 4x8x4! I have it sitting in the woods next to the parking area in my drive!

I had pictured 3 1/2 truckloads sitting in your driveway.

Well, I'm incubating again and I honestly don't have a clue what I'm dealing with this time! I mugged my broody hen and removed 15 eggs. I candled them and apart from some beautiful air sacs I couldn't see much. At all.

Except one egg that looks like it's about 6-7 days in... I'm going to candle again tomorrow.
