Yeah, it's insane.. Even for just a small ten gallon tank you are looking at $100 to get all the necessary equipment.

You just need to look for the good deals. I have a 42 gallon bow front tank with matching stand, lids, lights, filters, and decorations that I only paid $30 for.

I got my 125 gallon tank for only $100, except I also needed to buy the filters ($200) and build a stand for it.
125 gallons = 500liters = 500kg = 1100 lb of water. good golly, i hope you have a slab foundation

Yeah, it's in the basement. We calculated the weight to be about 2,000 pounds. It's a 6 ft. tank and the glass is 1/2 inch thick which makes it extremely heavy. Plus you need to add the weight of the gravel, lights, hanging filter systems, and etc..

hey oz what does a king size waterbed weigh?
A hard sided waterbed has sides of dimensional lumber, usually 2 X 10 lumber, which is actually about 1 1/2" x 9 1/2". When measuring the size of a hard-sided waterbed, you measure the inside of the waterbed frame, not the outside. The California king or waterbed king size is 72" x 84" inside of the frame.

Doing the math, a King water bed has 72 x 84 x 9.5 = 57456 cubic inches of water volume. This equals 248.7 gallons of water which would weigh 2071 pounds.
