After the internal pip how long can the chick survive? I know this is a hard question was just looking for an estimation as i only have two fertile eggs, they were shipped badly :/ they are pekins with frizzle gene and they are the first pure breed chickens i would ever have if they both hatch so really want 100% hatch rate i have incubated before very successfully with my mix chickens and never intervened but am willing to in this case pip the shell for them if they cant get air quick enough. I am only on day 7 so far just trying to get as much information as i can to be prepared.

I know someone can probably tell you much more about this than I can. But on my first set I clearly waited too long. I know I should have helped some, bc when I did the eggtopsy on day 23 their were a few dead internally pipped chicks. The others had hatched on day 20. At the same time, maybe if they couldn't pip the outershell, they might not have lived outside the shell anyway. Are you doing dry incubation? If so, watch your humidity. I am pretty sure I shrink wrapped a few? I think I took the word "dry" to literally. I am learning with each set.

Humidity is at 50%-55% right now thanks so much for sharing i just really dont want to risk losing any as there are only two :(

If you get worried and they are expensive eggs, you can make a breathing hole for them after they internally pip. Make a tiny hole in the large end of the shell so that air can get in and out. If you make it too big, the membrane will begin to dry, so keep it small.

Edited to add that they have enough air for 6 - 24 hours after they internally pip.

Oh I'm sure you will be fine. Mine dropped below 25 many times since its so dry here. I know last week I had an interal pip on Monday afternoon and went into lockdown. The lil guy didn't hatch until Thursday afternoon. So over 36 hours! It externally pipped about 28 hours after I saw the internal pip. Maybe someone else on here can tell you the longest amount they have seen?

Well I candled this morning (Day 17) since my other hatches the last two weeks have been hatching on day 20. I think I will go into lockdown with my 6 eggs. I saw one lil guy trying to internally pip. It was positioned and ready to go. I am so excited. This is my LAST set of eggs from this crazy month of a staggered hatches and shipping disasters. They were the ones we FOUND at the Post Office in our box. They had been shipped unknowably as replacements and we know they had been in the PO box at least a week laying on their sides. So out of the dozen sent, I am very pleased to be putting 6 into lockdown.

Maybe we will finally get our Olive Eggers! Can't wait to see what pops out! 5 are 2nd generation Olive Eggers and 1 is BCM over an Olive Egger.

The one I posted about earlier that I thought had pipped internally finally pipped externally. It has a weird shaped air cell so now I'm worried about it zipping properly. I now have 5 serama and 1 silkie. One of my little seramas is worrying me. He keeps flipping over on his back. Is that normal for newborns?
put her in a teacup and give her some vitamins infant polyvisol without iron, teacup will force her legs under her just make sure she doesn't overheat or underheat. more info bottom of hatching 101 article chick care.
