Hi everyone (and thanks for the invite, Sally!)
I'm getting ready for my first incubator hatch, planning to set eggs late Thursday night or early Friday morning this week for a hatch day around 4/26. I also started a thread in Hatch-a-longs, if anyone's planning one around the same time.

I'll be setting 41 eggs, as many as I can get from my own flock (Speckled Sussex rooster + Black Star, EE, and Light Brahma hens) plus some EEs and barnyard mixes from a local farm (including RIR, Blue Andalusian, Ancona, SS.) I'm also getting some eggs from the friend who adopted my EE rooster (she has some really pretty pastel EE hens,) and some Red Star eggs from another friend. So it should make for a fun game of who's who, assuming some of the eggs hatch!

I've got my incubator running (Farm Innovators styrofoam w/ egg turner and fan), and am finding blzzrdqueen's live stream EXTREMELY helpful; I'm starting to learn just how patient I'll need to be! I'm planning to do a livestream of my own on hatch day, assuming my slow DSL doesn't get in the way. Details (and photos) to come.

Just candled, day eight and one has a perfectly saddle shaped air cell (goes down of both sides) was just wondering what kind of complications i should expect if the chick makes it to lockdown? No pics because i would most likely drop either the i-pad, egg or flash light. Lol

I wonder how Kelly is doing! Talk about having to play catch up! I pray she hatches again and stops in! anyone know her full screen name so I can PM her? I am lazy today! don't feel like searching the entire thread!

I wonder if downloading the new Inet 10 has anything to do with loosing signal, na shouldn't have anything to do with it

Had a question. Anybody know if a older hen will go in the hen box sit for half an hour then come out and lay nothing?? She getting to the end of her egg laying??

Shes not egg bound. Just was wondering??

I know, but what was weird about this is there was no (inner) membrane anywhere near the vessel! The chick somehow managed to break the membrane and make quite an opening, but got the vessel separate from it. That's why I said it was weird. I've assisted quite a few chicks and I've never seen this happen. I wish I took a pic so I could show you. I could see the vessel very clearly, with the edge of the membrane maybe 1/3" away.

A couple hatches ago I had a chick that pipped and then died and there was blood on the chick and in the egg and I thought it hit a vessel.

I have year olds that will do this if I happen to disturb them. They don't want anyone watching. I have to watch this because when this happens they will find another spot and then I have to play the game of find the egg before the dogs.
