Out of my 12 shipped snowy call eggs only 3 developed and one of those quit around day 7, so only 2 left! 10 of my trout runner duck shipped eggs 10 are doing awesome but 2 have lil dent with hairline cracks off the dent that I fixed with nail polish. Then I set 2 more batches of shipped eggs (8 more mixed calls and 8 Aussie spotted ducks) and I'm expecting 1-2 more batches of shipped eggs in the next week or two ( mallard runners and domestic teal ducks). I must be a masochist! Hi my name is Noelle and I'm an addict!!!!!!!!!
bellah are you sure you cant find these local? I so hate shipped eggs! But I know, sometimes we just gotta have what we want and when your looking for it you cant find it local!
I started asking on CL if I want anything! and I don't place the ad in the wanted section, I head straight to the farm and garden and ask away!

I set 26 eggs today! Bator is spot on and warmed back up to 99 after the set within 4 hours. I am currently at 99.7 Crossing my fingers!

Question: how do you candle all your eggs without cooling the bator down too much? And on what day does the embryo develop enough to put off its own heat so can monitor the temp closely?

This first hatch is going to be so nervewracking! and possibly annoying for you all.

YAY ... double checking, you have fan model right?

Another reason I love my coolerbator! no fiddling with the "hold" flip open grab egg close candle replace! I don't think cooling is that big of a factor, but when I used the styro I had DH help with lifting of lid because you need several hands! But my styro was a pain to keep that temp, so if I took off the lid for a long period of time, during a candle I would have to fiddle with the darn thing all wee hours into the morning until I KNEW it was spot on again! Gosh I hate that styro bator !

Quote: I believe its day 10 it starts and its a gradual thing so I don't believe you would really notice it that much, I never have....I set the coolerbator temp at 100 and walk away and it stays all by its lonesome... that's why a good incubator thermostat is key....... anyone else?????

Yes I have a fan model. I am seriously coveting all the awesome coolerbators on here. I may have to strip various things for parts and make one of my own very soon! Hubs came home the other day to see me fiddling with this one and says "I could have built you one of those..." bet I can make him eat his words.

Funny tidbit... my 3yr old daughter watched me put the eggs in the incubator and I explained to her what I was doing etc. A few hours later Dad comes home and she very excitedly tries to tell him that I'm "baking chickens in the little stove in my bedroom"

oz what feed do you use in the Philips for your chicks and birds?
we have a full range of mash from starter to layer. its 30 merkan bucks for a 110lb sack.

I can also get rice bran (14% protein) for 16 per 50kg. I plan to mix 50% starter (23% protein) with rice bran for FF and add some multivits for the adults. just need more than two full days in country to set it up.

you need to write those down.

Mrs OZ was cruising along on our provincial road and ended up putting the car into a full lock skid to avoid a dog that ran on the road. As Mrs Oz is just starting to take her first no accident breath, our 18 month old boy Lorenzo simply says. "oops"

I wish I could keep up with this thread better! Alas here is an update of the last 3 weeks. I just picked a few to show off but out of the 20 we have here are some of my fave fluffy butts!

Our 1 week olds

Our 2 week olds- already in the big coop

I placed an ad on Craigslist in the same spot as you do, one in my Seattle farm co-op group forum and I've tried to email 2 local breeder I found on the call association site but no luck! The mallard and trout runners are crazy hard to find (I've had 3 people on BYC) trying to buy those off me) and Aussie spots are endangered and everyone in Washington has all related ducks but as soon as I got my shipped eggs today a lady emailed me who I found through an ad on Craigslist and she's going to sell me some Aussie eggs as soon as I find out if hers are related to mine or not?! Hopefully they aren't cause she's only one town away, also the domestic teals are a brand new breed this guy from NewYork bred from wild teals/mallards and this is the very first year he's selling eggs! They are even smaller than call ducks. So since everything I love is so rare, shipped is mostly what I have to deal with, what to do right
