maryhysong I talk to my eggs LOL they are a living being and I believe like a baby in the womb it must be comforting to hear us talk to them.

Yeah, I figure mamma hen talks to them too, so why not. Besides I still get a little startle when I candle a batch the first time and have one jump around in there.

Are you talkin' to me mister? AZ ain't no Yankee state! AZ & NM Territory was on the side of the Confederacy during the War Between the States! (we were but I'm just jking with you. I did however spend 13 years in TX)

SOOOOO upset and I just dont get it!!! DEAD on the ROOST!! I didnt even check for sure if its Sketch or Stencil, but it was one of my big beautiful Dark Brahma hens and all my chickens are April/Mays, so young! Lil Lucas climbed in and put her in the dish pan dust bath bucket that I dumped out. looks like she fell asleep and never woke up!!! I am p/od and upset, she has been a fine girl!! As much as I would love to check her out, she is frozen solid and I dont have the heart to even look in her throat for petes sakes! Now what??? uggggg

OH Sally, that's terrible. I wonder tho if she just had something go wrong somewhere. In that case a sudden death might be a blessing in disquise; much better than a slow lingering one.

My top hen used to be at the bottom and my bottom hen at the top. So tables have turned. I noticed how light in weight Peanut is and this post brought it to my attention that maybe she isnt getting enough to eat. Here is a video that clearly shows their pecking order. Ignore my voice I sound like/AM a crazy chicken lady. I can't help but baby talk them.

Sally, your not a weirdo to have to understand everything. I am that way too...if you understand what happened you can prevent it from happening again. Sometimes things just happened in the natural order of life and it's best we don't beat our selves up about it. I am very sorry for your loss...I can tell you love your chickens and she had a great home and people to love her.
