Hi everyone! I have been lurking for a few days now.I am getting a box of eggs in on Thursday. They are coming to me from Montana, so I am hoping they do well. Thing is, they are all going to be very dark eggs; Marans and Olive Eggers, so I am going to presume they all have detached air cells when they arrive. My plan, such that it is, is to let them rest at room temperature for 12-24 hours then into the incubator with the turner off for a day or two. This is my first time hatching with an incubator so any advise you have is welcome.![]()
Btw; LOVE the hat Sally!
Hi KimI ran across this thread from another thread and I have not read the whole thing, so please forgive me if this question has already been asked. I have 24 eggs in the bator ready to go to lockdown on Wednesday night. I've hatched shipped eggs before, but not with a whole lot of success. I was just wondering should I leave them standing up in egg crates to hatch or lay them down? This is only my second hatch in my new bator - hovabator genesis. my other bator was a very old LG and my temp and humidity never stayed constant, so my hatches were not good. I was just wondering everyones opinion on this matter. thnx in advance!
awwwwwweeeeee!!!!!! thats one brave chicken!!!I just wanted to share this with everyone...This documentary is on Netflix. It's called The Natural History of the chicken. This part is so touching![]()
pennies have cooper, copper destroys the cell walls of bacteria, thus keeping bacteria out of the bator. pennies before 1982 have more copper and are better to use in the bators. pure copper kills 99.9% of bacteria in 2 hours. it really does help with the bators!!!Why pennies?
Cool!!Yeah she figured it out on her own after about a few months, but we didn't realize till she started flying around the whole room all the time but only pooped in the bathtub... It took a couple months. And ok I'll try to hatch the duck, I put the egg in the bator yesterday and I'm gonna see if it'll develop!!!
Thats so cool .Who knew hanging out way to much on a fourm for chickens would mean you can learn so much.pennies have cooper, copper destroys the cell walls of bacteria, thus keeping bacteria out of the bator. pennies before 1982 have more copper and are better to use in the bators. pure copper kills 99.9% of bacteria in 2 hours. it really does help with the bators!!!![]()

Hi CB!! Thanks and glad you came over!! I think thats a good game plan! What kinda bator do you have? Is this a first for incubating or just shipped?
Do you do dry incubation methods?
First time incubating, second with shipped eggs. Last time I had a broody and all the eggs went to her. They were all duds though. Not only did none develop, they started stinking at the seven day mark. Poor Summer had to wait for me to find local eggs for her to set her hiney on. She did it though and four weeks after i took out the stinkers she hatched out six babies.
I have a farm innovators 4400 pro.Christmas gift from DH.
