O.K. I'll get you some quail stuff in a mo. I've sent so many new peeps here, I wonder what happened to them all

I'll stick around and see what happens. Enjoy the kids LOL Sound like mine on the weekends. He just want to go out on adventures. Well, he had a good one yesterday! LOL
I'm still here. Like I told Sally, the thread moves too fast and you guys are on to another topic by the time I wanna say something about the old stuff!

Sumi- nice incubator! I've got the same exact model.... I think I may have figured out why my temps fluctuated - other threads say 3days for the temp to stabilize; so I think jumped the gun with just 24hrs of regulating the temp. But what can I say- the eggs were twitching and crying to be incubated!

Sally- cute kiddos! Loved the pics of them with your duckies!

Anyways, out of 16- I only had to toss 1 egg for being infertile. The other 15 are growing and it's amazing! I was so giddy that I candled again on Sat night just to make sure it wasn't a dream! Seriously can't believe that I'm halfway thru the process. Today is Day13 and I can't believe how close I'm getting to lockdown. I can't see the air sack b/c I've got really dark speckled eggs so I just rely on the scale and lost anywhere from 4 to 6gm on Day10. 5gm was the majority.... so I think that's a good thing. I believe that I need to measure for 13% drop on Day 18, right?

I tried to add my pic of eggs and Brinsea but the thread says I don't have permission, hmmm...... will have to figure this one out.... maybe I've got cookies restricted.

Alright, stay warm everyone.

Hey guys, the actor is holding temp well after we adjusted it last night, it's spot on 37.5*C (99*F). Only problem here is I have NO IDEA what the humidity in there is???? No hygrometer! I'm going to buy one later and set the eggs as soon as I got that sorted. The instructions said to put so much water in there, but our house is a fish tank, so I don't know... rather play it safe and monitor the humidity. I don't want to mess this hatch up. The eggs are fresh, they can wait a bit longer. Will update later...

And talking about the house... It's raining in the kitchen. IN the kitchen. We can't figure out where the water is coming in and this is not going to help the mold situation. (The kitchen wall is grey) I'm looking at other houses to rent in the area. We can't live like this!!!

And besides I need more space for the chickens.

dont worry about the humidity till day 18. just run it dry till you get a hygrometer. make a wet bulb thermometer if you cant find one.. if you are really worried then add water every three days. in socal i ran 20% humidity in my bator. in the phils it was 50%. the humidity in the bator will be 20-30 points less than ambient.

Thank you Ozexpat, I found a hygrometer at the petshop and I've just put in the bator. The humidity in the room is 70%. Crazy. I'm going to check on the incubator humidity in a minute. If it's low enough I'll set the eggs.

DH asked the lady at the petshop if she's interested in selling chicks... She is!!

She said she'll take some when they are 6 weeks old and don't need the heat so much anymore. I'm going to get some more hatching eggs and hatch them and take them to her when they are fully feathered, just 6 chicks for starters, then we'll see how it goes. Hopefully they will sell well.

I'm going to see what hatching eggs I can get from the guy I bought my chickens from, so I don't need to keep breeding pairs. He's got quite a few different breeds and he sells eggs as well as chickens.

and it has begun..........

Hummm... Question, how high up do I cut the egg cartons for lockdown? I cut just the bottoms off but I don't think that gives the eggs much room to move, if any, and I remember someone saying they need some wiggle room.
