Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

I candled today! Out of my 14 shipped eggs, one might have a blood ring (not sure on that one, it's faint), one may be clear (still not sure on that one either, it's early yet), one that has a shell too thick to see much through, and one that's super porous so I can't tell much. The rest have at least faint veining, and several are very definetely developing. Saddle shaped air cells? Can you say yee haw? With the one that was broken, I'm not surprised though.
The six local eggs are all developing VERY nicely. Air cells are the perfect size, and I could even see embryos in a couple of them!!!
The temperature is holding very nicely at 100, except when I open the lid over and over to candle the eggs in groups of four! LOL! But the temp bounced right back up. Heat sinks FTW! The water wiggler is reading 99-99.5, so I'm very pleased.

Chick! BUBBA uggggg Am I allowed to give up before he does??
He was doing great since I took that foot thinger off and last night he must have toppled on his back and couldnt turn aroud so the other chick picked its toes!
little dots of blood all over the papertowels and wood in the bator! uggggggg!!
so I packaged his foot BACK up and put him back in chirping and eating away, no signs of weakness THATS for sure!! uggggg

Sorry the chick is a battle for you. Sorry you lost your blue girl. What are you using for roosts? For the big birds use a 2x4 turned on the 4inch side and low to the floor. Helps prevent bumble foot.

Is it possible for a chick to pip vertically? It looks like I have one piping at the very top of the egg. It's hard to tell because of the angle but it looks like there is a tiny bit of feather poking out there. Sooo hard to see it but that is my best guess without opening my bator. Two zipping BTW.

Sorry, a man has to work - I have been up to my elbows in human hearts.

Lunch break now............

regarding the ants

Hopefully you got the dead chick out.

You need to get the ants out of your bator.

I would take the bator into the bathroom and run the shower full hit in there for 10 mins, open up the bator and put all the eggs on a towel on the counter, then hose the ants out of the bator. Get the eggs back in and stabilize the temp.

Then use my anti-ant method.
