Update on Hope: SHE IS CLUCKING! She only does it sometimes, but when she does, she sounds like a pro!

Also, her neck- hackle feathers are getting longer... I think that if she is a rooster, it will be okay since she will be the only one I will have. She is so friendly and I love her so much!

I can't wait till when she has some buds- they are due to hatch on Friday, and I also remembered that lock-down is actually on Tuesday!!!

WOW Where did the time go?! I still have 8 great embryos and one that is dead (which I will take out of the incubator tonight). Also there is no school on Friday when they are due to hatch!! YAY!

Some of the eggs seem to still have a pretty big yolk sack. How long does it take for the chick to absorb it?

It can easily take more than 24 hours after the internal pip.

The external pip doesn't happen until 6 - 24 hours after the internal pip, and often times the chick needs an additional 24 hours after the external pip to finishing absorbing it's yolk. So give them plenty of time.

I am not understanding how you are seeing yolk sack, can you take a pic>? yolk sack should be in the little end of the egg, you shouldnt be able to see this????

Do u have a pic and did you open the rest of them? did you get its beak out or did it get its beak out? Have you candled the rest any other internal pips or chirps? for that one go ahead and open the top of the air cell completely so you can use a qtip and antibotic ointment not with pain killer though... to keep it wet at this point...... as long as its breathing its fine.... you will just keep watching that membrane and when you dont see any prominent veiing go ahead and peal it from beak to sides and if you get blood put back in the bator and follow those assist steps inthe article..... I can tell everyone I now use oinment EVERYtIME you cant beat it and havent lost a single assist since I started it! but I do have quite a ton of assists undermy belt and a great sense of time and the waiting game!

[SIZE=16pt][COLOR=000000]I will also add that I have recently switched from using sterile water in an assist to using Q-tips or "Ear Buds", and adding antibacterial ointment to inner membranes, because you do NOT have to keep wetting them and you can see in the pic below that the ointment makes that membrane clear, and it is ANTIBIOTIC it wont have bacteria in it that water can![/COLOR][/SIZE]​

Sally on these chicks did u break the membrane around their beaks or did u wait for them to pup on their own? I have one chick that I can see its beak rally good and it's pointed up and right. Jw if I should leave it or pull the membrane from around its beak
