Crap. My 'bator sat around at least 102 for at least 4 hours, maybe as many as 6. The water wiggler thermometer read even higher. :\ It was at least 104. It's only day 3 and I'm scared I killed my eggs

I think she is talking to that pipper under her and telling her to hurry up she needs a bud!

I set him in the coop with the others to snuggle for the night, I will pull him when I open up and see if I can get him to drink or eat, usually thats a good sign of how things will go from my experience with other animals too. I know what will need done. BUT if he eats and drinks I will check him out better but I have know clue what to do anyways so I will double check for breaks again and if I dont find anything just keep nursing him and see what happens. If it wasnt Halo it wouldnt be such a big deal. Of all the chickens I have

Oh no, Sally. I hope it's not too serious and you can help him recover. I had a young chick (I think she was about 6 weeks old at the time?) who run under the gate as DH closed it, got her leg crushed. He bandaged it as best he could and though it took weeks she made a full recovery. If you look closely you will see her right leg is a it shorter than the left, but apart from that she's 100%. I hope Halo will recover as well as she did. He's a very special chicken. Our little feathered friends have the most amazing ability to heal and recover from injuries. Have faith!

Uh oh. I hope it was not 6 hours, but then I had a boo-boo in my fist incubator hatch and had the temp spike even higher than that for don't know how long. Some of the chicks hatched out fine in spite of that. Candle on day 7 and see what's going on in there.

I had already preordered eggs so I'm setting them tomorrow and I have two question......1) I don't have a forced air, I ordered a fan but if I set tomorrow I don't get my fan in the mail for a few days so when I candle on day 7 could my husband install the fan real quick or will the environment change hurt anything (or can I just lower the temp for the forced air)? And. 2) does anyone do dry incubation for duck eggs & if so did it increase your hatch rate?

Bellah1 we just did this. A friend gave us a used HovaBator and the fan was really loud so I ordered a replacement but USPS temporarily lost it, so it arrived after I had to start the eggs. We had everything set out to make the switch, which basically involved a couple of screwdrivers and a set of pliers and a knife. It was 20 minutes tops and worked perfectly. We tested it to make sure before we actually wired it up. The eggs were still plenty warm when we got the top back on, so I figured it was no different than if momma got off to eat and poop.

Sally I'm so sorry about Halo! We had our favorite roo attacked by our turkey and the back of his head was opened up and he was paralyzed on his left side, dragging his wing and his leg. I separated him for about a month and he healed fine. Now he's back to being king of the coop. They're amazing.

The Little Bustard Tetrax tarda Is a declining bird in Europe and a very rare vagrant to the UK. The French name for this species translates as "Farting Chicken", which seems quite appropriate when you hear them calling.

Maybe I will get some T Shirts made for the “save the little bustard” movement

1. by all means install it! remember to lower temp to 99.5 for a fan model, you can cover them with a blanket until he is done to keep them warm!
