Narragansett

Originally from Rhode Island (as you might surmise from the name), Narragansetts were the staple of the New England turkey scene before factory-farmed turkeys became the norm. Typical sizes are 18 pounds for hens and 30 pounds for toms.

Interesting footnote:

A lot of New England turkeys were raised in Vermont, and before "rapid" transit, or any kind of volume transit, the farmers herded (correct term?) the flock down to the Boston area for sale and processing. One glitch was that when the turkeys had to cross a covered bridge they'd all sit down and want to go to sleep!

Pic #4- this is the size of the egg. Pic does not do it justice at all. It is TINY compared to that giant Marans egg.

Ok I am now understanding about the rolling vs flipping. Flipping end to end would not work and that is not what I do. I realize that is like 4 pages back. I can only blame my slowness on lack of brain speed due lack of sleep not my internet connection.

Forgive my confusion and now I really cannot remember what the original question was.

Now a cool off period! That is interesting and makes total sense and makes me feel so much better about how long it takes for me to move the turner out and go into lockdown. As soo as I read Sally said internal pip means lockdown I went into crazy chicken lady mode and dropped everything I was doing. OK I snapped a few pics, let me see if I can get them up from my phone.

Yes Brinsea now has a bator out with a cool down cycle
