Has any one heard of cauterizing the membrane? I don't think I could do it, it just crossed my mind. Would it break the membrane while preventing blood loss?

Yes, it is spring, and the light has been very bright these past few days. She just loves the light though. :33D, Congratulations on the egg!![]()
I'm glad Hope is feeling better. 3 months is super young for egg laying. I don't know very much about the egg laying process, but I do know that too much daily light can cause early layers.
She shouldn't be laying yet, she's way too immature! Poor thing. Give her some crushed egg shells with her food to keep her calcium stores topped up and keep a close eye on her.I don't think I am going to be able to finish reading 400+ posts! Happy Easter everyone! Hope laid me TWO eggs yesterday!![]()
She was in shock for a while without making any noises at all, and just stood in place with her eyes closed, and I had to push her down so she would know it was okay to lay down. Poor thing. She is back to he old self this morning though. I didn't see her lay the egg, but I pulled her lazy self out of her cage and sat with her on the couch, knowing something was wrong when she was quiet, so when I went to put her back in her cage, there was an egg AND an egg yolk already there! So I sat with her on the floor and gave her some yogurt (because I thought she was lacking calcium because the egg had no shell, and her comb was very pale and squishy) and she pooped out the egg whites for the yolk! After sitting with her for a while, I put her back in the cage, laying down in a blanket, and this morning, I took her out into the sun (because that was why I figured she is laying so early - she is only three months old!) and she then pooped out the shell! Holy cow! Now she is feeling better. Btw, her first egg had its own little yolk inside. She is also not on her layers feed yet, and I can get her any until maybe tomorrow or Tuesday... I will just keep giving her a little bit of yogurt every now and then. (homemade greek yogurt)![]()
Her comb was all flopped over.
This is what it looked like in the cage when I found it. (them?)
Looks like a balloon...
And it had its own little yolk. This egg was tiny.
I know. I think she was egg bound. She is better right now. Do I just crush up store bought egg shells and give them to her??? I will put her in a dark room. Maybe with a nesting box? She doesn't have one.She shouldn't be laying yet, she's way too immature! Poor thing. Give her some crushed egg shells with her food to keep her calcium stores topped up and keep a close eye on her.
Okay, thank you so much! I think I will put her in my closet. Now I must clean it out. Should I wash the egg shells good?Yes, store bought egg shells are good too. crush it up fine and mix it in with her food. I don't want to worry you, but with her being so young she may have problems like that egg that broke inside her. What you can do to try and stop her laying is keep her light hours to a minimum, keep her in a dark room, like you said. Though with Leghorns it's tricky. Mine laid in spite of the short days we had. If you want to give her nest box you can do that, so she has somewhere to lay if she does.
How many should I give her? Two? Would scrambled eggs help too?Yes, sorry I should've said. Wash them and bake them in the oven for a few minutes to "sterilise" them. Leghorns are egg factories and even if she's just half Leghorn chances are she inherited that egg laying genes.
