Pekin bantams hopefully i wont have to wait to long

Pekins/cochins aren't early layers. My LF cochins take forever to begin laying, usually a full year. Cochin bantams start laying a bit earlier, usually around 8 - 10 months.

Aw well there cuteness will make up for the long wait i suppose, never had them before so should be fun :)

Congratulations. I love fish and invested quite a bit of time in them myself. Watch that koi, they are jumpers.:D

The only hen I ever had that laid at 16 weeks were my RIR's. Everyone else was from 20-28 wks. Lord, that wait took forever!! The longest wait was my Lav Orp. She just started at 35 wks!!!

35 weeks?? That lady was taking her sweet time! I guess my last EE was not too far off from that. Born May 1st and laid her first one Chistmas day! My husband was threating a New Years feast if she didn't start earning her keep, hehe, guess she got the message.

Apologies for the weird picture had to do it on the iPad :/ was just wondering if this egg would even hatch? The air cell isn't really saddle shaped its more like it started of normal and then came down the egg on one side. When i candled the embryo was moving. Cant take a real pic because the iPad is so big and fiddly i would probably drop something.

I know don't quit my day job lol :)

I have about 8 shipped runner duck eggs with air cells just like that, they all start where they are supposed to but 2 of them run almost 3/4 of the way down and 1 if those kinda curve. I'm worried about mine too. They are a very rare color too!

Mine is only at day 11 and is almost 3/4 of the way down aswell :( only thing to do is to keep a good eye on them and hope for the best. Im just worried about how far it will be at lockdown.

Stubborn chick update! It went to town after I made that lil breathing hole. I can only assume it is resting now, but I can see it very clearly thanks to its hard work. But it was so erratic the way it was pipping/attempting to zip? It made a huge hole, like in a small circle. The two that are hatched and fluffing started pecking at it, so I put it in a bowl with a paper towel. Membranes look moist except around its internal pip? Strangest looking thing I have ever seen. Think my making a breathing hole caused this or is it just stuck/waiting?

Thats great but be careful, I am a (relatively) old (to some people) opinionated (to others) grouch.

There is a thread called the old peoples home. Maybe I need to move my opinions over there.

Oh, I have a feeling that won't be an issue.

Oh Oz we all know you are a young whipper snapper!

So I left the house to go to an urban farming class. I just knew I would come home to a pip on my last egg. Ahhhh no pip! I know I'm being an ansy nancy but seriously, how long is "normal" for internal to external pip? When do they run out of air? I just can't get the image of that dead internal pipper out of my head! I do NOT want to see that again from waiting to long! Is there harm in giving it an external pip?
MommaBee, you must be going crazy waiting! I'm not near that phase yet but I will probably be pulling my hair out when the time comes... I have no advice for you since I am new to this but good luck!

Does it look like it's trying to hatch? What's strange about it?

Sorry, I don't think I understand the situation.
