Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

I've got three live chicks, and one hatching. I helped the hatcher a tad. The membrane was looking kinda dry, so I pulled off a small bit of shell, put on some antibiotic ointment, and opened the tear in the membrane just a tad more. (My last hatch I had a chick pip at the wrong end. It would have been fine...except the tiny pip in the membrane crusted over and it suffocated before I knew what was happening. I'm a little over zealous when I see just a tiny tiny tear in the membrane now.)

Still nothing from the two CL eggs.
those "high society" eggs always give me trouble. my chicken toes are crossed that they get a move on. can you candle them for an internal pip?

HEY SUMI!!! Remember Ajani, that chick you helped me hatch 2-3 weeks ago? My first backwards pip and successful assist!

Well here SHE is now! I am almost positive it is a girl now. Comparing it to the other... Wouldn't it be great if they were a pair. White Marans are not abundant in these parts.

This is the other one.. My daughter's friend named it Bridgett... hmmm looks like it might just Bridge or Bridger??? We will think of something.

Ummm stop the cuteness! That child is PRECIOUS and that dog will be better off in the long run... if it lives though the toddler years!
nice white marans!

the dog survived. its still a little kid shy for some reason

at the moment. I would actually suggest you go South and skip that area. Lots of trouble with the mines and all that and a friend of mine recently moved from Rustenburg (where I grew up) down to the Western cape. She told me things are not so good up there. I'm not going into details. You can look it up online if you want or take my word for it.

Thanks! We are rather fond of our lil survivor.

So here is a pic I took a few mins ago. I know it is getting late in Ireland. Almost 10pm... so what are your thoughts? It is 4pm here so I have some time before bed. I still see small veins and what seems like more fluid over on the left? I have a bad feeling about this guy. Look at that internal membrane around the internal pip hole... looking tough/dry? It has been over 24 hours since it made that giant pip hole on it's own. And of course the rest has been me over the last 8 hours.

Time wise I think that chick is more than ready. Not sure on the blood looking spots at the top. I think if it were mine I would start on the membrane. Don't do it if you are really not sure. You can see more than I can and I can't stay on right now.

i agree. i would open the membrane just above the shell line where there are no veins,

then nibble down the shell another quarter inch.

You asked and you shall receive....

Other info- It started it's erratic giant zip hole almost 20 hours ago. Overnight it went from beak close to the pip line to head under wing position. The Bacitracin was pretty much everywhere but I tried to add water where I could. Sorry still pretty shiny. I do think it helps keep it moister than water but it makes it look SOO wet, and probably over exemplifies the veining and wetness inside. Maybe?
It looks much more red or bloody in the pic than it really is.
that looks like a horror movie LOL
Quote: GREAT IDEA.... I know you can find us one or three!
