Thanks Coch, I didn't even think, I reacted naturally, and boy was I mad at black betty, but when Harmony and Summer started to get all upset I had to explain to them that momma hen had to decide to feed and water her babies or risk loosing the them being the ones that are well and alive, it was a choice she had to make and by the looks of the abandoned egg, she did try to get the chick out herself.

Anyway its not over yet by long shot, I will update with a vid in the morning if I have time, I have a full house tomorrow!

Mommabee, did the chick break it's yolk sac? Maybe I missed it. I read through the 9 pages pretty fast...

If it did, I recommend tying the cord and removing the baby from the shell.

I don't think its broken she said the chick is really wet but its clear and she did see the yolk sack down there

so here is how i modified by farm innovators model "chick killer"

i just plugged it in so its not to temp but you can see the thermostat and internal temp probe are correllating

for 14 dollars it turns a crappy bator into a genesis style bator

Ok, I'm skipping a ahead a bunch of pages, so hopefully I'll find an update on the chick.  I have only had 2 babies foam at the mouth before. Goosey, and a silver laced cochin bantam chick.  The reason they were foaming was because they broke their yolk sacs.  Both survived with special care.

I will continue reading now...

hmm.. Well if she saw the yolk sac and it's in tact, then it probably is.

The liquid from the yolk isn't a deep yellow like you would think it would be, it's only tinted.

Ended up with 10 bantam and 6 duck eggs in the bator...daisy finally laid hers lol....how's that chick doing ..and sally how are your two...and oz I want one too lol

Anyone ever hear of someone who hatches chicks for others? A few people asked me to hatch for them, and I said no. The responsibility of shipped eggs is NOT something I want held over my head. Is this wrong in thinking? making a buck an egg is not worth the stress in my book, for hatching my own perhaps but not the worry of trying for someone else. Is this wrong thinking? or am I being mean and selfish? I honestly feel that if people do their "homework" and research they can do it too. Some just don't take the time to read and actually use the information given.

I have offered to hatch for a couple people. I do everything I can to talk them out of shipped eggs. Must work because I have not hatched for anyone.

she had to make a choice to take care of her live out of the shell babies. Not Black Betty's fault since she did what nature told her to do. amazing job on the chicks. I can't wait for the next update on them.
