Lubbock is the middle of no where out there in West Texas.Oh and for those who do not know exactly how big this dang state is. It is a 6 hour drive from us to Royse City. And 14 hours to get to the tip of Texas.
I will be in Altus and around Stillwater though around the end of the month too for an OSU graduation.
done and over with and preferably DH doing the deed.I hate to say it, but as usual OZ is correct.
HOWEVER.... (oz you knew I would have the however right?) I just discussed this with MommaB in PM, I think if you want to incubate you have to be prepared to do this stuff... There is NO good way to explain it either, it is what it is, either you can do it or call a friend or neighbor. At some point EVERYONE will have a major deformed chick and will have to take care of it. What is worse is putting it in a bag and just throwing it out or trying to suffocate it. Get it done and over with!
You can do it in a plastic bag laid out on the table or something. Gently roll the chick in the paper towel long wise, yes its head too, find its neck and snip as fast as you can with a scissors or I use a (of all things) deboning scissors. No lifting looking at it or anything its a done deal roll up the bag and go bury it. It IS THE FASTEST safest way to cull a chick.
Vinegar and baking soda. Little more handy than dry ice.Dry Ice and a tupperwarr container will put the chick to sleep and it will die from CO2 toxicity very painlessly. Who has co2 or dry ice at home though.
Have you tried giving him a buddy. Do you have someone from his group that would be very gentle with him? Here's my poor Alexander. It's been exactly 1 week since the fight. I've never seen him droop his tail feather like this before and he's pretty weak. He hasn't eaten or drunken anything since the fight, but I've been tube feeding him to keep him hydrated. I think it might be time to let him go, but he seems so happy with is girls and he looks like he wants to continue on.
