Oh and for those who do not know exactly how big this dang state is. It is a 6 hour drive from us to Royse City. And 14 hours to get to the tip of Texas.

I will be in Altus and around Stillwater though around the end of the month too for an OSU graduation.
Lubbock is the middle of no where out there in West Texas.
I hate to say it, but as usual OZ is correct.

HOWEVER.... (oz you knew I would have the however right?) I just discussed this with MommaB in PM, I think if you want to incubate you have to be prepared to do this stuff... There is NO good way to explain it either, it is what it is, either you can do it or call a friend or neighbor. At some point EVERYONE will have a major deformed chick and will have to take care of it. What is worse is putting it in a bag and just throwing it out or trying to suffocate it. Get it done and over with!

You can do it in a plastic bag laid out on the table or something. Gently roll the chick in the paper towel long wise, yes its head too, find its neck and snip as fast as you can with a scissors or I use a (of all things) deboning scissors. No lifting looking at it or anything its a done deal roll up the bag and go bury it. It IS THE FASTEST safest way to cull a chick.
done and over with and preferably DH doing the deed.
Dry Ice and a tupperwarr container will put the chick to sleep and it will die from CO2 toxicity very painlessly. Who has co2 or dry ice at home though.
Vinegar and baking soda. Little more handy than dry ice.
Here's my poor Alexander. It's been exactly 1 week since the fight. I've never seen him droop his tail feather like this before and he's pretty weak. He hasn't eaten or drunken anything since the fight, but I've been tube feeding him to keep him hydrated. I think it might be time to let him go, but he seems so happy with is girls and he looks like he wants to continue on.

Have you tried giving him a buddy. Do you have someone from his group that would be very gentle with him?

I am 30 mins north of Tulsa. Normally this trip would be to Abilene but a different family member decided to host the reunion. Royse City is south east of Dallas I think, Little far for a meet up.

Haha, yes a little far ;) and we are 30 mins from Lubbock.... So we are really in the middle of nowhere!!!! Maybe next year! We can plan a trip to the famous Abilene zoo and meet up in Abilene! You are very sweet to offer though!

looks like a chicken egg. Blue egg layers include Legbars, Araucana, Ameraucana and cross breeds such as easter eggers. Green normally means a blue crossed with a dark brown egg layer - marans and wellsummers
So gutted I just had one like that but slightly more blue! It was infertile!!

Thank god I looked in on my broodys eggs and one had pipped in the lower middle of the egg and then just kept pecking in that spot and made a big hole she had turned them so he was pip hole facing down in the nest. I picked it up and noticed the outer membrane was all tan and leathery with a bit of blood too. The flap of membrane was stuck to his bill and closed it so he was breathing just through his nostrils. As soon as I took the piece of outer membrane off his bill he started opening his bill like crazy then finally started moving. I took him inside and candled the air cell is all the way on top above him so I chipped away the shell he started and stopped because where it was already gone a lil blood was next to where the membrane meets the shell. I can see the yolk below towards the little end and the blood vessels are pretty small but still there also I took off some of the outer membrane but above his bill the outer membrane is totally stuck to the inner membrane and there's dried blood on the inside of the outer membrane edge so I put bacitracin on the membranes and put him on wet paper towels next to his sibling in the bator who still has yolk and lots of blood vessels left but peeping away. So is it ok to leave some of the outer membrane on there since its stuck to the inner?
I tried to post pics but it won't let me how I always have. It's asking for a URL. I can put them on my profile so how can I get them com my profile to here?
I uploaded pics in my profile of the new one I really need advice on, you can see how far down it pipped and pecked by the yolk at the bottom of the hole in the shell she made. The pics are in the most recent photo set
