Quote: Here's what mine did:

I opened the hole just enough so it can breathe properly and left it basically for 2/3 days before starting to investigate. I saw some vessels and left it another day before helping it further. I cannot remember the hours from pip to hatch now, but it was a long hatch. I was so glad when it was over! The last evening before it hatched finally I removed enough of the shell to expose quite a bit of the duckling, but not enough to give it ideas about escaping and I left the inner membrane intact. When I checked on it the next morning (about 10 hours later) it hatched and was still sopping wet, so it hatched just before I checked on it. I remember last thing that previous evening it's inner membrane was fairly clear, except there was still blood vessels visible near the yolk area.

With ducklings you can work it out like this: from internal to external pip is 24 hours, from external pip to zipping is another 24 hours, then zipping can take 8 hours +. If the duckling didn't pip into the air sac (due to being malpositioned) add the internal to external pip time to the external pip to zip time. Regardless of where the first pip went it still needs all that time to absorb the yolk and the blood. The pip is just for oxygen (and to drive us crazy

) I kept the membrane as damp as possible with mine by keeping the humidity up and now and then I gave it a good wipe with a wet q-tip and clean water. Ducky absolutely loved that. It's funny, chicks complain because you're taking too long and ducklings are like "Ooooh, you missed a spot!"

Lazy today. Working on a 2nd pot of coffee (decaf). I am too old for caffine after noon. Freezing cold. I had to go cover plants in the garden. Looks like I am growing milk jugs. scooped the coop and made sure everyone was warm.

Congrats Sally and Harmony and Princess Diana! What is GFM?

Incase he's still absorbing yolk you should tell him to put him in a separate container in the bator lined with kitchen paper, and then get a proper look when you get home, did he send a photo to you?

:hugs whats going on there with that brooder chicca?
:celebrate on your serema eggs sally !! :hugs sorry about your chick sparky !! and wow that is a lot of clicks !!!
Sorry about your chick Sparky. :hugs What happened?
Thanks, I had out the 5 chicks out in the big pen and 2 of them disappeared already. Both of the golden ones :( now the only remaining chicks are Elvis, Cola, and Brewster. I guess they just escaped somehow...
My first ever hatch of chicks are 3 1/2 weeks old. I'm on day 9 of my second hatch and 11 out of 15 are developing. These embryos are so much more wiggly and active Han the first batch. :). I plan to do one more hatch after the present one and then sit back and enjoy my babies.
Awesome! That's great!
I think a single slice divided up between 9 chickens isn't going to dilute their nutrition too much. I think it's adorable, and all anybody can worry about is the extremely remote possibility of malnutrition from a slice of bread once a day? Forrest for the trees folks. Let's not get so caught up in minutite that we forget to take joy in our hobby.
Oh I didn't mean that a piece of bread would hurt chickens I was just sayin that cause I have watched people feed lots of bread and hurt the wild ducks near my house.
UPDATE on two ***** in my livingroom! still needs the toe taped, its just the middle one now has just a slight curve and the other still chooses head angled but is fine! UNFREAKING BELIEVABLE to be honest I cant believe it! Lucas took this
