Just looking at ordering a dozen cuckoo Maran Eggs 6 Araucana, 6 Legbar and a dozen various coloured Leghorns. I have heard that Marans are very hard to incubate. So before I even buy them can anyone give me the low down on these chickies??
i have had bad luck with marans but then i came across something. I saw on the bottom right side of this page an area called related articles. there is one by chookschick - a highly respected bycer with great birds, the link to the article is on this page on my pc but if its not on yours - or your using a mobile device - here it is https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-dark-eggs

I want to get some dark eggs this weekend and test it out

Well I started to read the 50 pages I missed and gave up after trying to do too much "chicken math"
Haha

Ok so question for you friends!

Already looking for breeds to hatch next spring.... Ummm or this summer if I do my chicken math right with my husband!
What is up with Cochins? Why are they loved so much on this thread? Do I need some? Right now we have about 1/2 the standard breeds that exist haha. Pretty much one of each.

I think I need a plan of I'm going to keep this up! Am I going for selling eggs? Am I going to try to breed? I got a cool white Marans cockerel out of the last hatch. With all my blue layers I think I could start a cool olive egger breeding program. Hmm.... So many questions and so few people to understand them... Thank goodness for you guys!!

Well candles Thursday. Out of 29 eggs had to take 4 out. Not to bad. 3 infertile and 1 blood ring. Yesterday went to turn them and the small meat therm rolled off the top of bator and I tried to catch it. Knocked it in the bator and cracked the top of an egg.

Brother. Candled it and it had life moving. So for the heck of it I put it back in. How knows. But all going good. Next stop day 14 Thursday.

Cochins have a wonderful nice loving temperament, they are fluffy adorableness, they are awesome broodies if you want to hatch some eggs, great mothers too!

You definitely need a cochin. There is no doubt in my mind.

Think big puffy feathery bodies with beautiful feathered legs and feet. They are known for being very docile and laid back.

Quote: I hatched three batches, wait 4 and have some in again. I didn't have issues with any of them, except I had one wet chick and they annoyed me when it was time to candle! I am still debating that whole sanding the egg just to see inside of it deal. but like I said I don't have issues so I don't have to do it.

Quote: Unfortunately, This is not always the case. Some people spend many years helping , helping, helping, then when it comes time that they need help- what they get is a bunch of excuses and screwed, mostly just kicked in the teeth while they are 'down'.......Life is not always for some what it is for others.
Yeah, I just described myself.

The thing is, If you are a person of the nature to help, you can't stop, you just keep trying, and sometimes help doesn't always come in the form that you need it to. Sometimes you end helping the wrong people. Sometimes helping someone for what you believe to be the right reason gets you screwed and makes you not want to help anyone.
Just sayin......................

Sometimes just talking with one person makes you feel better though......Sometimes that one person taking the time out to help by listening makes a world of difference, and they know how to divert your attention so you can see any positive that may be at hand......To the person I am speaking of.........you know who you are.........

BLESS YOU

........you took the time, in all you do for others, and enabled a change of perspective, which in turn gave me the ability to move forward.
