Yep thats what I would hear ... more chickens!

I think The Terrorist is going to make great chicken stock.
I am agreeing with you. We eat chicken from the store and I know my chickens would be way better. I watched a show once where 1st graders couldn't even name their vegetables. I can't give mine away either since they would just make chicken soup for someone else after I have put so much time and money into them.
he runs at me with his head down and then grabs my feet or leg with his bill. He went from being terrified of me to chasing me...
I have a hen that ran into to my mom one day and she droped some food in her hand..... now the hen will run at you just like a rooster if she sees you holding anything!

That is why my grow out pen is full and the bator goes into lockdown tomorrow.

All I'm sayin is I have been attacked too. If it ever happens again, I will take care of the problem . Is a horrible thing when your animal gets aggressive!!!!
Mine get locked in bachelor pads but now it looks like they will be BBQ.

sounds like your doing what you can for her! keep on doing it!

Here's a video with the sound. Anyone know what it means? Only the ameraucana makes it and I'm stumped. It is plucking my heartstrings for some reason.

I am sad......
I have to make the call tomorrow to set up processing for 4 roos, my cochin roo and 3 brahma roos its really bothering me but I need to get past this. I decided to stay inside the rest of the day as I keep finding myself watching roosters and admiring their beauty. I can get through this and move on, and perhaps next step will be raising meaties which I wish I could be doing.

Did anyone ever run into a thread that will help me through this part of chicken keeping? heck I wouldn't even know what to search for. I did sit and look at images of big production plants and such, and I know how much more healthier and better doing our own meat is but still need some support here.

I just don't get it, why when I get so old do I get so tender footed? Beats me

and I am even psyching out thinking I will be abled to tell which bird is who by size and all that, heck I may just end up sick as a dog getting meat returned. But I wont know until I do it.

Confession of the day.....

I am a woosie how ever you spell that
Sweetie, there's no harm at all in being soft hearted.

I used to haul a lot of meat out of the slaughterhouses and have seen some pretty horrific things there. For several years, I couldn't stomach meat. You have any idea how hard it is to be a cross country trucker and not eat meat? Why, they even put bacon grease on everything on the salad bar!

But seriously, it's okay to not enjoy the task. I don't mind butchering, but the killing part is what gets me every time. I always cry like a little girl. I try to give them a happy life, and a respectful end, grateful for their lives that nourish us. Shame I no longer live in WV, I'd love a cochin roo.

Dh told me after a cat adopted us that I can't have any more animals unless they earn their keep.

When we first moved here, I had to promise not to go nuts. It'd be way too easy for me to take in every critter that comes my way. The only downside to all the animals is that I don't have any help with care and upkeep, so I really need to stay within what I can comfortably care for. Thankfully I don't work so that gives me plenty of time, but I think maybe I'm starting to hang out on the computer way too much. If I cut my internet time back by an hour, how many ducks would that allow me to care for each day?

I told hubby no dogs, but that doesn't mean I can't substitute some farm animal.

Whatcha think? Goat?

Oh and one of the ducks might get the chopping block. He keeps attacking my feet.

It's ten wiggly little worms! Who could blame the guy?

I would have eaten Jerkface too, but I had a friend in need of a rooster, so I gave him away.

I love your rooster names.
