Weekend Summary 5/11/2013~5/12/2013
Sally warned chicknfun to watch out for NiBBLES b/c she looks like a trouble maker

and was astonished that doug had been thinking of baby names since he was 14 ... i think I started picking them out at 8 lol
Sally had CCL Tpolish and brahma going into lockdown .. the CCL were starting to hatch last time i checked the thread before starting the weekend summary
and an empty bator ... gasp and the second empty one is full ...AGAIN!!
she shared some chicken pics on post 15268 as well

Waffle has some turkey eggs heading that way and is having some temp problems with the bator !!!
the bator is a tin brower and has mercury thermometers .. any more suggestion anyone? and update waffle ?

Tweetynpetey has had an external pip for awhile now and has slowly been assissting a little at a time .. hope to see an update soon on aflac the ducky

loving more chicken pics from sally on post 15276 !! especially those spitz!!

Sally and the gang has realy missed OZ but it is nice that he opped in earlier today !!!

Sally is investigating the possibility of meal worms transmitting marek's and if it pertains to the particular ones she has

Sumi, Sally, and self agreed that ducks take longer than chicks and often are not as noisy and are doing our best to advise to TnP

Tony's eggs are indeed production reds and when he finishes the 6*6 he will post pictures .... eventually lol

and he suggested a Vick's therm/hydro for waffles
also tony added FF to the bucket and it went everywhere !!!

gardeningmama suggested sallys don't know whats might be bantam MF cochins... sally said no but then again after researching thought that might be it after all

Sally posted a link for cpr for birds - post 15295

and is also researching the possibility of the platic food and waterers causing health problems in chickens

marty1876 popped in and announced that there are turleys and goslings hatching over there and hoped we are all doing well

cochins bought home two poor little chicks from the baby animal day at the high school norrible hatch ... i hope they do ok and florish !!

Welcome to ms steak who stopped by to visit to the thread and said the conditions of the high school hatch sounded disgusting !!

and sally asked how steak came by the profile name chosen

only 2 of cochins goose eggs are fertile .. hoping for one boy and one girl !!

gracieo2 stopped by - WELCOME -

shared chick pics with us post 15323 and has 15 FBCM in the bator and lockdown is wednesday

Doug had been at a St Louis cardinal game and had chicks hatching at home ...

the cards won by the way

dcba also has spitz but does have one that is having feathering issues and wonders if its just that chick or possibly the breed

Sally was seriously missing oz ... i think we all have missed him but are glad he had some mrs oz time too !!

dcba is trying to decide exactly what breeds to go with like sally favs so far are -

Norwegian Jaerhon, Araucana and Ameraucana
I had never heard of the norwegian ones so i looked them up .. are those bantam or LF ?

motorcyclechick gave sally a hug and said marans are pretty darned things and wished gracie good luck !!

a lot of motor's current hatch has rolling eggs cells !! grr so frustrating always

RenneRae shared prom pictures of her beautiful 1st born Rayne (that is my god granddaughter's middle name) on post 15361

and she has 5 silkie and 4 serema going strong and she wished us all a happy mother's day
as did I and several others

Oh no tony has chicken mites !! several people gave advice and he is fighting them hard and fast !!!

sumi suggested sevin dust and that is what i used as well and neem oil as well

el pollo commented on sumi post she found on ducks and said th person was lucky they spelled spelling right lol valid point el pollo !

cochins found lice (all tony's fault lol )

that she believes actually came from wild birds sharing space with her hens

Doug pronounced renne's rayne a very pretty girl and wished us all a happy mother's day

he also had 14 chicks hatched as of this morning

chicksooner had a scare b/c of a forgotten brooder lamp but the babies were ok !!

she is dealing with a brooder hen and eggs n chicks as well

oz sends greeting and happy mother's day wishes and has about 24 hours left to get mrs oz packed and on her way back !!

doug cooked a great meal for his family today !

tony thinks the wet nasty plywood might be the cause of his mite problem

doug is also having temp flunctuations and is hoping everything is back to normal !!

tony does all the cooking at his place too

doug did eggtopsies and most were developed but did not finish .... hes hoping for better luck next time

to answer toastnjelly ... when im moving is in the next month and where is back to ga ... this wil be the first part of the move .. the big harder part comes later ... i have to go assist my sister with baby number 6

and toast says renne's daughter is just lovely too !!

Sally is very happy oz stopped in !!

RenneRae asked about which ACV to get .. sally recommends the Heinz .. it has to say with the mother in it

Sally has her first broody serema and it is one that just started laying !!

You know the cancer risks from heated plastic water bottles? well our ckn waterers get warm and even hot in the summer, can the toxins stay in chicken carcass and even their eggs?
I am going to keep posting these until I find answers! lol

ANOTHER question!!

Meal Worms may carry Mareks disease and a bunch of other unwanted guests, (still trying to figure out mealworm types, not an easy lookup)
Chickens can also be exposed to Mareks virus by direct contact with ill or carrier chickens - which includes almost all chickens. Wild pheasant, quail and turkeys can pass the disease to free range chickens. One other route of infection is through meal worms, (which many small flock owners feed) and the darkling beetles that are the adult mealworm form. The mealworms do not become sick from Mareks.http://www.examiner.com/article/how...mareks-disease-michigans-small-chicken-flocks

Darkling beetles or lesser mealworms (Alphitobius diaperinus)Disease transmission
Darkling beetles are known vectors and reservoirs for a number of serious poultry disease agents
(leucosis, Marek’s disease, infectious bursal disease, reovirus, enterovirus, fowl pox and Newcastle
disease) and can act as intermediate hosts for caecal nematodes, tapeworms and protozoa. In addition,
they can transmit a number of food-borne diseases such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium,
and have been recently implicated in the transmission of Campylobacter. http://www.poultryhub.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Darkling_Beetles_web.pdf

This is where I am at with this stuff.....
