Hello to all, I have a quick question. I have a ducklings that I have helped to hatch, but I think it was too soon, I did not take them all the way out of their shells, I have read how to help hatching chicks, so there were no blood, I made sure of it, but I know about egg sack so I left them alone, but it has been 6 hours and they not trying to get out or opening eyes, they pip and breath and sometimes opening and clothing their bills. What do I do now, did I ruined it? It looked as if they were shrink wraped, like there were two membranes and all of it was too ruff and dry. By the way those eggs were under the duck all this time, until I came and saw that one of them was a little broke, as if the mother duck tried to help them out or stepped on it by accident. There is more eggs, but I tried to help only for 2. Please let me know if I did something not smart.

upright in a cup so they cant get out prematurely, they have a chance for infection but remember ducks take up to 2-3 days to fully absorb and hatch, much different than chicks. I rarely EVER have to take that inner membrane off a chick unless its malpositioned and I need to free its head and beak. They always get out on their own too.

But for now let them have time
and use the cup

18 pages behind after only one day on the road. I dont have time catch up. I scanned a little but I have a lot of work to do and then off to St Louis again this afternoon to another game.

Is there a fool proof way of knowing which chicks are which in the incubator? I know I can't keep opening the incubator to band each chick as it comes out.
Second question. If I give my newer broody chicks, will she stop being broody? It has only been 3 days.

You can put the eggs in baskets in the incubator. Each basket would represent a different breed/color.

If your broody hen accepts the chicks, then yes, she should stop being broody.
