ok quick question... I have had a chick just hatch and it keeps flipping on its back. isn't that hard on their breathing? why is it doing that???
just hatched? they aren't coordinated sometimes for hours afterwards, how old is it now? just a hour or so?

If it makes you feel better- I had chicken poop in my dryer. My DH left it open yesterday (full of clean clothes) after taking his work clothes out. I guess the chicken thought It would be a great place to take a nap. When I pulled out the clothes to fold them I found a "surprise", I wondered why the clothes smelled funny.
lol what a supprize.

Yeah Waffle!! Congrats on the hatchers! When I was considering taking the NPIP cert class for WI many others on our WI thread discussed that there are very few actually documented issues with disease each year and it is more of a way to collect money for the testing and state registration and monitor what ppl are doing and tax them if need be based on sales of chicks/eggs/meat etc? Anyway I know each state is different but it seemed like kind of a racket if your not showing or traveling with your birds? Just my 2 cents....

Thanks guys. it was just 30 mins old!! He seems to be doing better now. Had another hatch! all good so far. pretty exciting stuff. Managed to catch one coming out the shell on camera too!

Ok the vet is stumped. She is bringing me Sulmet tomorrow. I'm to get all the chicks into wire cages and get them off the ground and saturate everything with a 3 to 1 bleach mix.

So your bleaching your farm? How logistically are you managing this? Sheesh Doug. I am sorry you are going thru this.
