Hi Lisa,

Welcome, and excited to know how your hatch comes out! I am very interested in this breed for my egg basket. Does feed or ph have anything to do with the bloom color?
Not that I am aware of, it's a genetic thing as far as I know. My other Langshans do lay a very light beautiful cream colored egg though, I am just missing the bloom that my new eggs have. I believe they used to have very dark eggs with a very plum bloom. Some of the eggs I received are this very dark color.

Hello everyone. I am so bored and trying not to go mad crazy at the fact 2 transformers, blew down the road somewhere. So here i sit in my car so i can charge my phone, and cjat with friends. The weather is weird for this time of the year, not complaining, just weird. Only 70* windy as all get out. I have two incubators cooling off and I'm trying not to open. One has chicks in it as they are on day 20 and 21. 7 turkey eggs on day 15 and 16. I wonder if my broody hen would hatch them out for me, any thoughts.

Well. 4 more when I got home. Several more sick. Birds will reach the lab tomorrow. At this point, I'm hoping to just save my flock. I may have to take some drastic measures.

Just a FYI for those who are unsure about which to use, Corid or Sulmet:

Sulmet only treats 2 of the 9 types of cocci that chickens can get. Corid treats all 9 types. Also Sulmet is very hard on the bird's system. It contains sulfamethazine. Sulfadimethoxine is much safer and kills coccidia that Amprolium won't.

Sulmet is sulfamethazine
Sulfamethoxine is an alternative (Di-methox).

I would not try and second guess your Doctor of Veterinary Medicine as to why she prefers Sulmet over Di-Methox. She may have regional information that all us chear leaders don't have.

From http://vetmed.tamu.edu/common/docs/public/aavpt/sulfonamides.pdf

Sulfadimethoxine oral solution and powder for oral solution are indicated in the treatment of outbreaks of coccidiosis caused by susceptible coccidia.{R-2; 4}

Sulfamethazine oral solution; sulfamethazine powder for oral solution; and sulfamerazine, sulfamethazine, and sulfaquinoxaline combination powder for oral solution are
indicated in the control of susceptible Eimeria necatrix and Eimeria tenella.

Sulfaquinoxaline is indicated in the control of outbreaks of coccidiosis caused by susceptible Eimeria acervulina, Eimeria brunetti, Eimeria maxima, E. necatrix, and E. tenella.
