here I am again with a question. I am going out of town and of course I have eggs in the bator... I am going into lockdown tomorrow for eggs hatching on Friday, but I also have eggs that are due to hatch on Monday. Can I put those eggs on lockdown too, or is it too early? Just trying to take some work off my kids while I am gone.

Personally, I had to put some in 5 days early because of just such a situation and it didn't seem to matter. The early hatchers will move all the eggs around anyway.

Thank you so much, you are a life saver

I have trained him about the lockdown and paying attention of the humidity, he just wasn't comfortable moving the eggs (afraid of busting them).

So if I have eggs going in lockdown on the 29th will my other eggs that don't lock down until the 6th be ok or do I need that 2nd bator for lock down I hate to mess with what looks like a promising hatch and move any but I will

Quote: It all depends. If its a clean hatch, I just put the next set in and remove the chicks. If my bator is dirty looking or messy looking, I will either clean it quickly or put them in another bator. Lately, I have been keeping one heated and empty. I have 4 set up and going all the time. For example, I have chicks hatching on day 21 today, and tomorrow I have several more go into lockdown. My chicks are hatching cleanly, so I will put the other eggs into lockdown in the same bator and remove the chicks. I will also candle any remaining eggs from the first lockdown and either leave them, assist, or get rid of them depending on what I see.

We are going to make a homemade one in an aquarium and until I get the temp and humid down in it I'm kinda worryed

I would just lock them all down at the same time. If you want to try to keep the bator clean between the 1st and 2nd batch hatching you can use little baskets lined with paper towels. If you have a lot hatching use shelf liner to lay under the eggs. Don't worry about eggs getting rolled around.
