Oz I wonder if I should give my dog an antibiotic too.... thinking last time I didn't write down what they gave him! It cost me 130. for only a few pills!

Sallyi dont double box my eggs and so far peeps are getting 100% hatch rate. I bubble each egg and place in an egg carton put a layer of bubble wrap over them shut the lid and bubble wrap carton. Then i use those styrofoam squares to line sides and bottom. Put cringled newspaper place egg carton in and surround with more newspaper. Very light weight.

what is your average weigh for doz and cost?

Usually i send out d'Uccle eggs and they weigh about 1 1/2 to 3 lbs depending on how many I pay about 6$ some times less

quick question..not sure if you remember my problem with having too many eggs (really IS there such a thing? Ha!) anyway..now I'm worried will having them all in egg cartons and just using a book from side to side be sufficient turning?[/QUOTE]
Sure is. Lots of times they sit in a nest for several days before they are moved. We (humans) do more than the hens do. LOL

Thanks! :)

The only thing Im concerned about is that they were in the incubator so if they were set the same days as ones under broody COULD they be a little late or early due to temp differences between my incubator and a momma incubator

UGH, all this experienting drives me bonkers!
My experience with broodies and bators are they generally hatch about the same time. My good broodies happily take all the chicks I give for 2-3 days. I pushed my last one to 4 days. She gave me a pretty disgusted look and went back to her nest and called everyone to her. I wouldn't trust a new broody with eggs or chicks I was really counting on.

just make sure you are getting a really good angle with the book.
Ack!!!! I have a Lavender Ameraucana that is externally pipping the wrong way.

. I've open it's air hole and it seems like a strong willed little thing. I was careful and there's only a little blood so I think it is doing well and pretty far along in being ready to hatch. I'm going to bed now that I've open his breathing area and will check him again tomorrow to see if he needs help. I hope it makes it. I got a lavender split (black chick) last time and I really want an actual lavender Ameraucana chick. It looks to be the lavender color too.

. Send positive thoughts please!!! I've got a couple others that pipped internally too.

Wrong end pipped chick from shipped eggs wasn't doing anything. I removed most of the shell trying to not disturb the inner lining. However, I got to deep in one spot and it was bleeding pretty bad. I put ointment all over the lining and laid it back in the bator with the shell side down and the beak side up. I only left enough hard shell for it to set on. This morning I don't know which one it is. Its one of the 4 that are in there that have hatched so far. Today is day 21 and I have 7 eggs left to hatch. Hoping to get a few more and I highly doubt I will ever buy shipped eggs again.

Its pipped the wrong end? They shouldn't have any blood at the "zipping" stage because that's After they have rested/absorbed.

You guys will be so proud of me!!! After opening breathing area, I went to bed. This morning I checked on the wrong end pipped egg and it was ready to get out with no veins or yolk. So I removed the shell all around it's pipping spot in a circle and removed some of the now tough rubbery outer lining. I wet it with warm water and put it back in the bator. Within 5 minutes, out popped a healthy chick!!!! So I have another wrong end pipper

But I'm being patient.

Im not so patient. I just candled the remaining eggs and saw no movement in three of them. Dead fully developed chicks that had absorbed the yolk but only internally pipped. Then I had 3 more that had internally pipped and were alive. None were positioned correctly so I removed a lot of the shell and put ointment on them. I had one that was moving but hadn't pipped and had a lot of water in the shell. I tried to remove the water. I saw it try a breath then it died. It drowned. So I have 3 chicks that are still in the inner membrane but no shell and are chirping. I put 4 in the brooder. I have fingers crossed for 3 more. That would be 7 out of 11 for these shipped eggs. That would be awesome. At least I have 4 anyway.
