Chad came and got all the quail and chukar, and DH says "did you ask Chad for a few chukar?" Mouth fell open wanted to smack him! complain complain and then want to keep some! He has been closing up the chickens in the evening and he started saving almost all of our eggs even mutt layer eggs! I said if he gets them mixed with the brahma orders I will cream his hide because I don't know how to tan it!

Brian what is that bird in your avy? its different than the last one you had on, breed wise right? I love that coloring, can u post it in this thread larger so we can get a good look? when I click on the image it says I am not allowed to open it! I am seriously thinking about doing the aviary type open pen like Oz suggested since DH loves all those game birds! and what kinda comb does he have?

just put 8 turkey and duck eggs in the hatcher basket. tossed 40 :/ some duds some quitters. moving in 3 weeks +/- so i prolly wont set any more in the bator till im moved. no chicks of any sort from any of the broodys yet. If i cant wind down i may take the mag out and candle some. Starting to wonder if the bedding may be heating the eggs too hot. ive got a probe thermometer thats my backup on the ultrabator. might snatch that and put it under the hens and see whats up.
How many birds you need to hatch to catch back up since u lost so many?

I lock down on some cream legbars, OEs, W/BW Ameraucanas and some BCMs tomorrow.

Since it is very humid in FL anyway, should I actually not lock down and up humidity until I get an internal pip??? I've been getting a lot of them developing but not hatching.

Any thoughts?

If you are able to check on them every couple hours to see if there is an internal pip then I would wait to up the humidity. Even then you probably won't have to do much to get the humidity to about 65%. I would start checking late day 19. If your temps were spot on you would have internal pips on day 20. If your temps have been higher then internal pips could start happening day 19.

not sure if this was directed to me or not. if so, its a fawn silver duckwing old English game bantam. they have straight combs, and are supposed to be dubbed at rooster stage. I don't show and am always trying to breed better so I leave the combs to sort out best points and no thumbnail combs. im not an expert in genes but the way I understand it, its a silver duckwing with expressed dun gene, without getting technical they breed like the blue gene. if you are asking me about this, I do have some extra eggs and I am a member of NPIP so I can ship eggs or chicks. these birds came from a showman and reputable well known local breeder (that's why they are dubbed). in fact this fawn SD is better than my regular SDs that I searched long and hard for.

fawn silver duckwing old English game bantam

fawn red old English game bantam. basically b.b. red with same fawn colored chest.

this is my first breeding year, and im working on a group of sports to breed back to the original colors for 100% fawn yield. unfortunately I cant offer that until next year
