HELP Hope has a big gash in the top of her head and we can no longer afford to take her to emergency room. there is no skin left and I can see her skull which does not seem to be broken. My family keeps encouraging me she will live, but I am highly doubtful because I think she is just in shock and that is why she is acting normal. My mom is going to get some antibiotics for her, but I was wondering if I could give her some home painkillers aka: acetaminophen (sp) some way 'cause we are dirt poor. I really don't want my Hope to die, but it might happen anyway. I am barely typing right now. My mom said to clean it with ivory soap and water, but I want to know your opinions. Please help.
super glue in the gash and push it closed. Works great.

I have one egg almost completely zipped and at 5 pm tonight will be day 20. I've had the bator at 100 until a week and a half ago when I brought it up to 102. There is another external pip on another egg and I hear peeps from others. The one almost zipped is a SLW!!!! I hope everything is okay with it, I've really wanted this breed. I'm wondering if I should have bators at 100 but still manage to keep the humidity down. I'll see if these were just early hatchers and the others come out to play tomorrow.

I love early hatches. They do better. Ive actually raised all my temps just a little bit. Im a little over 102 on my still air and over 100 on my forced air.
Was wondering about genetics in chickens as far as breeding blood related hens and Roos ?what is the rule as far as inbreeding gos what do you guys do ?can i add the hens i choose to use into the same coup with my current roo(thair father) or will I need to use dif Roos next year when I add my younger hens to my bI reeding program i have no idea and when should I replace Roos and hens
It doesn't matter in birds.

I wouldn't take her to the vet either. I think with chickens, if they are going to survive, they will. If they are going to pass, there is not to much you can do to prevent it. I had a week old baby chick that had a huge gash on the back of it's neck. I thought for sure he wasn't going to make it. I separated him, and kept it clean. I put BluKote on it when I put him back in with the other chicks. It healed all the way, and you can't even tell now - 5 months later. Good luck.

I had a chick survive a dog attack and she now has one blind eye but is otherwise perfectly fine. Her leg healed, her cuts healed and her eye just sort of sunk in and she keeps it shut most of the time. Her name is Ripley and she is one tough pullet :D

i dont do the white jersey giants - hate the black legs and ive never had anyone request them. on the australorps i can help a little, they are just 2 generations off of hatchery though, - far from show quality.
The black legs will help Bernie tell them apart.

I bought and paid for some from Frank Reese at Good Shepard Poultry but he sent on the wrong date, flaked on the next shipment and no longer answers my emails.

I love Australorps!! Ronott, from the Norcal thread, has some beautiful blue ones. I need some!! I think you also need some Standard Cochins. I have one of them, and would get a ton more if they were better layers.

Hello everyone, sorry I've been scarce lately. Stuff going on here... Anyway, I may finally be hatching something soon. I found a local breeder that has RIR, BO, as well as Blue, Lilac, Black, White and Splash Australorps for sale. (Chickens and eggs.) I'm thinking about getting some of the Australorp hatching eggs from him, but I want to get some background and more info on his birds first.
