I borrowed this bator, it is very old and used and has duck tape all over it to plug the holes. I bought new hydro-meter and thermometers for this hatch. I am trying to talk my DH into getting me a new bator. As I have more eggs coming! And now I am worried.

The more often you turn during the first 14 days the better. So the chicks could benefit if you do the opposite of what you're thinking of now for your next hatch   After day 14 turning is not as vitally important anymore. Just continue hand turning as you've been doing until lockdown. Good luck with the hatch!

Good to know! I was trying to decide the best course of action... I have day 19 eggs in the hatcher, and batch 2 will need to be moved to the hatcher on the day that batch 1 will be on day 21. Perhaps instead of opening the hatcher on the day the others are trying to hatch I should just move them tonight and not worry about turning them on day 17?

did you remove the duct tape over the vents?

There was no duct tape on the vents. Just all around the edges of the lid and bottom where it has been chipped up from use I guess.

ive had that popeye thing happen before. it didnt look as severe as in your picture. i washed it out with saline and everything was fine in a couple of days. im not sure if the saline cured it, or if it healed on its own. just thought id throw this out there.

Ok here is where we are I was wrong no jungle fowl hatched just a very tiny chick from EE egg so we have 15 hatched healthy chicks ,3 that piped and then died still in shell with only beaks out ,one that died of after hatch while still in bator had mushy body and oozed yolk when I picked it up I haven't seen any more pips but I'm giving it till day 25 also ducks are saposed to hatch day after tomarrow.we lost power in middle of hatch for 3 hours don't know if that effected the hatch

Day 19 and I have my very first pip! I am concerned because its below the last air cell line a lot - by I haven't candled since day 17 when I put them in the hatcher because I needed room in the bator - and I had a feeling they might start early since so many are and its so hot. Do nothing right??
