Quote: We thought they were too much work, due to our stupidness one ducks. We filled a pool nearly every day for them, had to de-ice it, they were messy and everything was wet. They were noisy and well.....I don't like ducks, they are cute and all, but never again. If I had a large barn I would get a goose though.

Winter is coming.... I found ice that was 1/2 inch thick in the duck pool this morning. All the water dishes froze, but thankfully the ice was thin enough for most of the birds to peck through.

I guess I finally need to order those new heated water dishes.
I am thinking the same thing, froze already! uggggg

i didn't have the brains to have my husband make these for me so we just bought them at the ts store. so much easier than hauling water up to the coops.

OMG, anyone have a clue?? Is this Newcastle?? Up to 10 dead birds now and I have a newborn chick doing weird head twist things :( https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...g-in-my-hands-right-now-help/50#post_12213849 I am shipping off a hen, rooster, cockerel and 2 chicks for necropsy on Monday to Texas A & M :barnie :hit

I have dry and wet pox for sure going on. Vaccinated all the ones with no symptoms and the deaths stopped for a few days.
They simultaneously had gotten symptoms of coccidiosis and/or necrotic enteritis and treated with Corid and Tylan immediately after vaxing for Pox.
Next had a chick suddenly drop dead after no deaths for a few days? and I got a cockerel and then a rooster who had just one side of their head swell up over night completely closing their eye on one side. This was quickly followed by severe respiratory distress and then death by asphyxiation.
Tonight I found a CCL hen almost to the point of lay with bubbles coming out her eyes, dried snot on her beak, respiratory distress - I put her down to include her new symptoms with those birds I was already going to ship.

And now a few minutes ago one of the chicks in the house about 7 days old that looks otherwise fine started doing this weird head tracking torquing thing.

Anyone? I read about Newcastle and that is sounding about right maybe except the chick would not have hatched if it was born with it so I'd have had to infect it since being born a week ago. Certainly possible, but I have tried to be super careful - changing clothes, taking showers etc. for biosecurity.

UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :he :he :he :he :he :he :he :he :he :he

I am so so sorry your going through this! you did have a bird sent out right? this is very very odd! Have you by chanced messaged Dawg and see what he suggests? I think you will need to send a live bird out for testing or something more. so sad. have you found any dead wild birds around too?

Sending out a bunch Monday. When I was going send before the deaths stopped so I thought I had it figured out.
