Do you keep anything on hand to nebulize for aspergillosis or candidiasis? I have always felt that for the very little ones (kittens, chicks, puppies) where aspiration is a danger, it is good to have a nebulizer with a chamber and a variety of drugs appropriate for nebulization (hence the gentamicin). But I cant decide between nystatin and amphoteracin for fungal/yeast infections of the respiratory tract.

Sally, I think that with the CCL's there is a split between the US school where they should have upright combs and be faulted for flopping, and the European school which thinks that as long as they have a nice big crest and comb, the flop is okay.

I am no expert, that's just what I've picked up.

Sorry for irritating you Oz, seems that you and I just don't communicate well and since we're both professionals, I sincerely regret any emnity (how do you spell that word?) between us. I really wasn't trying to antagonize you while you were worrying about the hurricane and your family and all. I just really get excited when people start making medical supply lists.

I have a nebulizer in my human kit. My human chest could treat a small village lol.

My issue is diagnosis. I am not with my chickens so I have to diagnose using broken English in statements limited to a text message or a 12 mile dash to decent Internet to upload photos. I have to stick to more broad spectrum type treatments.

I have yet to have issues with fungals or anything requiring a nebulizer. Though there are some antibiotics that are used across the board, I am also pretty cautious in using antibiotics - especially those designated for humans - in off label applications in animals. Watching bugs become resistant is scary.

Amphotericin B is a very high powered drug that in humans, is only used in life threatening situations. I am the clinical director in a hospital over the respiratory therapists and have only seen lung transplant patient getting the drug via nebulizer. We don't see AIDS patients like we used to 20 years ago. Most other fungal infections are caused by antibacterials/antibiotics knocking off normal "good" bacteria.

I cant imagine whipping out the nebulizer for a chicken but I would use Nystatin - and make sure I was wearing an N91 mask. I would want these antifungals to work on me if I ever needed them.

The drugs I use are

Di-Methox Soluble Powder 107gm - 1st choice for sick chick with off poop, adults with resp issues
Tetroxy HCA-280 9.87oz - second line for resp illness
LinxMed SP Powder(40gm) 1.41oz - for bloody poop chickens or pigletts
NeoMed 325 100gm - - for bloody poop chickens or pigletts
BMD Soluble/Solu-tracin-200 4.1oz - For prevention of ulcerative enteritis in growing quail
Amprol 128 10oz - For prevention of coccidiasis
Aureomycin Sol Pwdr Con 25.6oz - prevention of resp and poop problems in piglets

its gonna be pic overload today! I have time for pics and now posting works!!

Brian, My WFS roo doesnt have red above the eys at all, none, he has it above his earlobes though does that matter? it looks like it belongs there. His comb looks ok as far as droop and wrinkles. Not sure I get the beak stuff though.

This is a bunch you will have to open them to see the parts closer. I just let them out and all he wanted to do is fight with the other roosters and have a crowing competition!
i dont know for sure how they judge the earlobes, i know porcelain white is what your looking for. a small red spot toward the top of the earlobe shouldnt matter more than 1/2 point if at all. all white faced spanish i have seen show just a touch of red somewhere. i dont get the whole face/beak shape thing either, i think your just trying to avoid a concave look. the floppy combed hens may be ok for the hen line breeding - if you seperated out lines. usually only show breeders do this.

to everyone else:
for the record, when i "nit pick" someone's chickens- its for education of the person. when asked i will do my best to tell you problems i see- i am not a judge and my advice is not always golden.

Thanks, its the one WFS hen that has a flopped comb though

Quote: Do you have pics of your turkens by chance? I would love to see how you have everything set up with that many breeds. I take it you have a huge property. I always wanted a farm, I guess I should have married one eh? oh well

Also what do you raise the pharoahs for? meat? are they also dark meat?

Is there any breed of fowl that is small with white meat that grows fast and eats little like quail? We really didnt like the cots we processed. I forget if you ever told me if you have a website?

Quote: Thanks Brian, I have googled and every roo I see has the same red at the lobe so I am not worried. https://www.google.com/search?q=goo...20#newwindow=1&q=white+faced+spanish&tbm=isch

I dont have room, nor do I want to make more room on this property to separate them. I often thought of selling them off and trying some bantams of somesort that are rare, but I have so many that want me to hatch wfs for them come spring. It seems that everyone falls for them before my brahama, go figure. I think people dont know the beauty of them until they are right in front of them, they are extremely majestic looking, not sure if thats the right word, I just cant explain. They are tough looking birds for sure, extremely unique from any other. My husband really likes them so for now they stay.
