i have lots of little zippies full of white powders lol

Seriously, we get the bags of medications designed for a gazillion chickens and break them down into unit doses then label them.

Its a whole lot safer that guestimating with a teaspoon.

Hopefully I can get some Wyandotte eggs from a local breeder and some Faverolles from my own birds. The only problem is that I only have a little Brinsea Mini Advanced and it can only take seven eggs at a time. I might have to use a friend's incubator if I want to do both at the same time.

Okay what is she hatching? =)

Hello all I'm new and was hoping to join your thread. I ordered eggs on Monday and they are supposed to be shipping out tomorrow (I will receive a confirmation e -mail tomorrow. I only ordered six eggs and I think they are coming from Tennessee and I live in Arizona. So Agh! Probably should have shopped around a bit more.

I read the first pages on this post and I feel more confident that some will hatch. So happy I found this site everyone is so helpful.

I have two questions at this time. . . First do you sanitize your incubator for the first use? Mine has never been used before so there isn't bacteria from eggs or chicks but could the packaging have any? And second do I need to use distilled water? Again I'm like worried about having a nice clean environment for those eggs and crossing my fingers chicks.

Welcome to the thread!

I've never sanitized an incubator for a first time use, but it wouldn't hurt to rinse it out.

No, you do not need to use dis-tilled water. I never have.

I wish you and your eggs the best of luck.

Candled my eggs yesterday and I'm on day 15... Eggs seem to be "sloshy" if that makes sense. Had a problem with the stupid styro bator. My temp was at 105 for about 15-20 mins!! Eek!!

I still see vaining but I'm afraid they may be dead. Should I let them continue and then check on day 18 b4 lockdown? So upset. I've never had my heat get to high.
It takes a long time for the core temperature of the egg to rise/fall. If the core temperature of the egg to rises to 104*F it will kill the embryo. 15-20 minutes wasn't very long. FWIW I've had heat spikes worse than that and for longer periods and the chicks were o.k. Hope yours will be as well
