To be a kid again..... sigh

I havent seen my older sons since easter, miss them. :( cant see how oz does it with little ones, my boys are grown and I feel terrible sad

Amazingly both eggs that I've damaged are still alive and going good. I did find a quiter last night and upon opening it I found the most Braddock baby inside. Im guessing it was day 16 or so. I do have pictures of anyone wants to see.

A ccl is out and a bunch of serama. and looks like a brahma is workin on it too. didnt notice that when I peeked in the plexi!

I'm excited to see the results Kathy. What are you doing differently for the two eggs?
I forgot to say that these two eggs are under a hen and I'm going to use the data from these to help guide me in incubating others in the incubator. If I were really on top of things like Sally is, I would take temp and humidity measurements, but I'm too cheap and lazy, lol.

Last year I weighed some, but didn't didn't do it religiously and had 4 of 10 hatch in the incubator. Over 100 eggs laid, but only 32 chicks. Low percentage, I know, but ~35 of those eggs I stored for over two weeks in a warm house. The 4 of 10 were they only ones I started and finished in the bator, I also used it the last three day for many of the chicks that hatched.

This year I have an Incu-Fridge, so at least they are being kept cool. Going to set a bunch of the older ones today, but will set those under my 30 pounds turkey that made a nest at the edge of my porch, the rest will go in the bator once I do a thorough cleaning.

As for what I'm doing differently, it's:

  • Weight on date laid
  • Cool storage
  • Weight on set date
  • Weight on day 7, 14, 21 and internal pip.

If they hatch unassisted, I'll have better target weight losses for the eggs I'm setting today and tomorrow. Once I figure excel out I'll have it calculate the actual % of loss, but I need help from my roommate for that.

Lots of Skype, $25,000 a year on airfares and many sad lonely nights.

But the hugs when I am there are the best. I hope to go over by the 20th

We should all be together in 6-9 months

I am usually not a record keeper, I have just a notepad and a calendar lol never weighed an egg since the first batch ever lol
But these silky ducks are a challenge and I need to keep track of them or they will die like the last batch. :( and so far I didnt get the loss I need either
