Diatomaceous earth for chickens

Do you mean wild birds Aart? Yes I think so.
Haven’t seen any on my chickens. Bird mites hide in cracks during the day (normally/ light infestation).
No, I mean your birds.
You'd have to look at night, well after dark, to confirm the bugs you saw were actually mites that feed on poultry by observing them on the bird themselves.

It was clear the clustered eggs in the branches where from bird mites. When I discovered the mites and mite eggs it was daytime. I immediatly took action. I cant recall seeing any at night on my chickens.

They could have well been something else then.
Lots of insects in the world, can be very hard to ID accurately, not many bother chickens.

I know the mites are difficult to recognize. But I had no doubt it was mites and clustered eggs of the bird mites I had on the branch. I used good pictures to compare with.
In dutch the bird mite is called bloedluis 🩸 (like blood lice) this is not the official name because they are small spiders, but only with the common name bloedluis I find pictures on the internet. Like these:

And there are also video’s and commercial sites about bloedluis. And how handle it.
