Diatomaceous Earth for internal parasites

I read online that DE can be used for internal parasites: worms. This does not make sense to me. If it is the rough edges of the DE that destroy, say, lice, wouldn't the digestive process of a chicken destroy the rough edges, rendering the DE useless for internal parasites? What are all of your thoughts on this?

DE wont work if it is wet. The insides of chickens are wet, it wont kill worms, it's hyped.

I use DE in the coop and dust bath area it does work for mites/lice but I have not seen how it work for worms since it says it does not work once wet.
