Dickey vs Sportsman incubator

The flats that you get 5 dozen eggs in work in the Sportsman too. I use them to set jumbo coturnix eggs because the "quail trays" are too small for the jumbos' eggs. I've never tried chicken eggs in them because I have the blue trays.

You're incubating and hatching simultaneously in the same unit? How does this work with the humidity? Info on the Sportsman says it's supposed to work like that, but what's the trick?

BTW, I ordered the Sportsman today. Can't wait!!!

The humidity and temps recover very quickly. I had great hatch rates while I was using the sportsman as a hatcher too. Just make sure you keep an eye on the water tray because the more you open it the sooner you'll have to add more water. Do not let it run out of water when you are hatching.

Mine always stayed at 76% as long as I had the door closed. I incubate at very high humidity and don't change it at the last. I will say that water seems to collect at the bottom, so I'm thinking the humidity would be higher down there.

You right Paula. Some REAL important eggs your hatching. Ha ha ha!

mine when i just put eggs in with no wicks stays at 47% humid... with a wick i get it to 65%,, it doesnt hurt the eggs that are turning, to have 65% humid for 3 days. but like Buster said,, make sure when you put the eggs in the hatching tray, the LAST thing you do is fill the water tray. its SO dry here, that mine will go dry in 2 days,, so i got the bucket for it.
Mr. Dickey says you dont need to raise the humid in the bator when doing this, that you can mist the eggs in the hatcher. i havent tried this, but know of a few that are gonna.
i think his idea on turning off the bator before opening might help a little,, but it only takes mine less then 2 min. to recover, and probably less then 1 min.

I think that the reason water colllects in the bottom of mine is because I incubate as suck a high humidity. I put my hatching tray in the bottom on top of 2 plastic hangers to keep it out of thin layer of water that forms on the bottom.
