Did I Cause These People to Get Fired? - Poor Customer Service

As if they really don't want people to come into the store anymore.

The last couple of things I wanted to buy at WalMart are no longer available in the store. You have to go online to purchase them. My last attempt was to buy some mud flaps for Dear Wife's car. WalMart sells them online only. :tongue

More and more of the stuff I want to buy have to be ordered online. I guess everyone is rushing to become another Amazon.

I very strongly doubt your one complaint caused her to get fired. Mangement doesn't fire a good employee based on one customer's complaint. They'll get a talking to, maybe a letter in their employee file, but one incident does not justify firing her. I've never heard of that happening over a complaint like yours. (It IS justified if the poor service they rendered included a discriminatory remark.) At any rate, it would take a pattern of these sorts of complaints for an employee to be fired. It also occurs to me that employees are often cross or rude to customers when they are looking for an excuse to quit or get fired.
Some employees can also become cross after dealing with endless customers stealing or complaining about things that the employee has no control over, being forced to work through breaks, or any other such thing. I, myself, had a pair of customers complain loudly about me when I could not heft a 300lb object that they wanted and because I had to leave my station to find someone to help them because the walkie was broken. Then I heard that same couple berating the front end coach, who served in Iraq, on MEMORIAL DAY. I was fuming for the rest of the day, and I did not provide anything close to good customer service for the remainder of my shift. Some days, people come in and press every single one of your buttons, and if everyone is pressing your buttons, you are liable to be less than pleasant to deal with. I always tried my best to hide it when I was just done peopling, but sometimes you cannot hide those feelings as well as you would like.

yeah, they have done with the scanners a long time now.
You can find somebody walking about (LOL) or scan them at the register for a check. If you decide you don't want it, because the item does not ring up as marked (or expected) somebody has to take it back.

they really took advantage of the pandemic chaos to really not only drop the ball but give it a good kick down the hill.

It used to be a thing, to go downtown to window shop.
Then I would walk walmart floors to discover new things.
All of that is boring now.
new things to discover in the electronics, or anywhere else for that matter.
and I hate Amazon more.
When I worked there, our coaches were encouraging us to defer customers to online shopping. They are growing OGP so that way less people come in. 😑

That's good to know. My goal in talking management has always been to correct a bad situation, never to get anyone fired.

Yes. Shameful on everyone. Shame on the Target employees who failed to help the disabled man and instead calling the cops on him, shameful for the other customers not willing to step up and help this poor man, and shameful for the cops who could have helped this guy trying to pay for his bicycle and instead haul him off to jail on bogus charges (that were dismissed in whole). Like I said, there were no good guys in this video anywhere.

Yes, eventually the lead officer on that arrest was arrested and charged for his actions, but nothing seems to have been done to address the failure of the Target team who were the first line of help for this disabled man. None of the customers were able to step up and offer assistance? Have we become that dispassionate that we no longer offer aid to those who need it most and a little help would have meant so much? And the police that are paid and entrusted to serve the public instead jail a developmentally slow adult because he was unable to pay for his bicycle fast enough at the self-checkout lane? No heroes anywhere.

I will link to the video again. It's not just an anti-cop video, it condems us all and that is the point I think all of us should understand. Only the cop was punished, but lots of other people were in the wrong as well.

About the middle portion: It brought back a memory of mine from when I was about 17. I had gone into Walmart to get a bottle of soda, and there was a large group complaining about not being able to get into the aisle. I looked, and saw a woman of maybe 90 trying so hard to lift a 24 pack of Ginger Ale into the lower basket of her cart. NOT A SINGLE PERSON MOVED TO HELP HER! I had a lot less will-power to control my BPD at that time, so I physically pushed perfectly able-bodied young people out of my way, approached the woman, and offered in my sweetest voice to help her load it. I have still never seen such appreciation on someone's face as I had seen that day. I helped her, made sure she could still control her cart, and pushed my way into the soda aisle once she was gone. On my way out of the aisle, 2 20-something year olds were making jokes about her struggles, and I lost it completely and pushed them both into the shelves hard enough to actually make them hit and bounce to the floor. I left laughing at them. I do not tolerate such horrid behavior from anyone at any time. Yes, my behavior was technically assault. No, I did not, and still do not, care.
