Did I Cause These People to Get Fired? - Poor Customer Service

Pics
To those of you who hate self checkouts, I possibly have good news. Our local Walmart is a test store just 30 minutes from the Walmart headquarters, they replaced all the checkouts except for 3 with self checkouts at the beginning of the year and since then have changed 75% back to regular checkouts because it seems most people dont really like to self checkout lol I imagine they will do the same in other stores around the country. *fingers crossed *

I am not a fan of the self-checkouts. So, I would be glad to see them gone.

I did 11 years in retail, it's something I'm good at and enjoyed a great deal.

That's a tough story to read. Hope you find something you like even better. Retail can be tough, with rotating work schedules, holidays, etc... I try to keep that in mind before I complain about poor service. But certainly, some people are better suited for retail sales and people interactions than others.

I am attempting to homestead nowadays, we have 15 acres with pigs, goats, chickens and whatnot. I'm definitely enjoying the change and I'm sure the kids are loving having us both around all the time. Though it's been difficult it has been worth it.

holidays,
I blame the people shopping for that. They don't patronize, the store will be closed. Exceptions of course. The beach side bar will be open summer holidays, it's the nature of the business. But humanity survived most everything being closed on Sunday. Bare minimal essentials. I don't need all three of the gas stations at one intersection open or both walgreens and cvs.

On the flipside, people put up with lousy pay if they are treated right.
or all the money can't keep staff if the boss is unfair and crazy.
The owner of the lab my husband and I worked at told hubby that he knew, "Sally was really taken advantage of," by the former managing partner. I worked way too many hours and was paid salary (not legally).

The summer I was 52, I told a friend of mine (former coworker under same manager) that "If I could wake up tomorrow and be 65, old enough to retire, I'd be tempted. There is something wrong with your job if you'd wish away 13 years (!!!!) of your life."

Why did I stay? Hubby worked there, so we could save the gas money and commute together (a big cost, since we live out in the boonies), the work and environment were clean and safe, and I liked (most of) the people. Oh, and being 52, I would have had few choices for a job. My CAD skill set was out dated. My other skill sets were not going to get me anything but "general labor."

That manager was gone the next summer. And, I am SO GLAD that I no longer work there. The owner is a decent man, but I do not miss my job at all.
Or, maybe everyone will be selling their goods through Amazon and the items will all be delivered to your address, and you won't even have to go to the stores anymore - if any brick-and-mortar stores are still standing.
They will need to find ways to take care of us people out in the boonies. Or maybe the small town near me will have places for UPS and FedEx to deliver to, and I can pay a fee to have my package delivered there.

Have I said often enough that I'm glad I'm not 30?

...I do not miss my job at all.

It's really great to see someone working in a position that they like. I've had good jobs and bad jobs during my life. Life is better when you enjoy your work. Looking backwards, I don't miss any of those jobs, although I might miss the paycheck I used to get every 2 weeks. But I put aside enough money when I was working that I don't miss the steady paychecks all that much either.

As to why its hard to get good customer service these days it's because of the work environment. I regularly received customer service awards in some of my past positions but was driven out of the workplace because of the abuse verbally and physically, my last day working retail the store owner screamed at me for requesting a schedule change, i was scheduled 6 full days and needed to move some hours to take my fresh out of the hospital preemie daughter to her appointments. One of my bosses cleared it and gave me set days to make appointments, the other disregarded it amd scheduled me anyways. I quit, I had more than enough of the yelling and when I told him I quit and he had no right speaking down to me he physically attack me. There was a fight that he did not win and now I can't get a job in retail.

:hugs I hope your daughter is well. ❤️

Yeah, I grew up in a small rural town of 300 people where just about everything was closed after 5 pm on the weekdays, except the 2 town bars and 1 local cafe. Church on Sunday morning, but everything else was closed - except the cafe. We got by, but I was glad to grow up and leave that small town.

Thank you! She was 8 weeks early but never had to even be put on a respirator. She is a tough little one. She just turned 2 in August and is excelling in every way, we are very proud of her. Her brother is just 11 months older and she does really good keeping up.
