Did I Cause These People to Get Fired? - Poor Customer Service

Online Grocery Pickup. But it has grown to all departments. The employees you see pushing tiered carts and collecting items are OGP collecting online orders.
With so much retail theft these days I think that ordering your items online and either picking them up or having them shipped will be the norm sometime in the future. Not allowing customers into the stores will solve half the theft problem. And once that happens, the stores will be able to work on controlling employee theft.

I try to always help people while I am out. It is not always feasible (not every day do you happen across someone in a predicament).

It's just good you were willing to help when it was needed.

And about the aggressiveness: At 17 I had yet to learn how to control my BPD, so I frequently showed aggression, both in private and in public. I have since learned to control it to a point. I no longer lay hands on anyone, but my mouth likes to run away sometimes. 🙊

As an RN, I worked in Mental Health for 5 years and had a lot of patients with BPD. I understand what you deal with in life. Sounds like you have made a lot of positive progress in your self-control. That is fantastic.

Yes, I have heard that from many people in retail.

I have mixed feelings about ordering everything online. When it comes to tools, I often like to pick them up, compare the different brands, and get a feel for it before I decide which one to buy. On the other hand, there are lots of things I am perfectly fine ordering online. Probably most things.

What is wrong with people!?

Probably nothing that cannot be repaired.

:old Back in the early 1970's, I was in Boy Scouts Of America. I went to summer camp one year with all the guys and had a great time. One day, while at camp, my troop was brought into the dining hall and told to rest awhile. So, we were just shooting the breeze talking about all the things we were doing and learning at camp. Anyways, a kitchen worker comes out holding a big tray of forks and spoons, trips over something, and everything went flying all over the place. We jumped up and started to help him pick up the stuff. He thanked us and went back into the kitchen. Not a big deal. Later in the day, we found out that it was a test to see how we would respond to someone in need of a little help. My troop had won with the fastest response. That's a life lesson I still feel good about at the age of 63.

I can't say that I have always lived up to that standard, but I try.

Yeah, lots of military in Virginia. Not as much in my small-town northern Minnesota. I have never heard of the Pro Xtra button or just entering your telephone number to access your account. That sounds like a good system.
Ironically, my dad was in the service in Langley AF Base, VA before I was born, then I was born on Langley AF Base, but Hampton, VA is where we lived. After his four years were done, we moved back to Minnesota. I graduated from Staples, H.S. in 1978 so I'm old too! I now live in Wisconsin, but we go back to MN every August for a family reunion and sometimes a couple other times a year. That turkey farm is Gold's in Motley, MN.

That's good to know. My goal in talking management has always been to correct a bad situation, never to get anyone fired.

Yes. Shameful on everyone. Shame on the Target employees who failed to help the disabled man and instead calling the cops on him, shameful for the other customers not willing to step up and help this poor man, and shameful for the cops who could have helped this guy trying to pay for his bicycle and instead haul him off to jail on bogus charges (that were dismissed in whole). Like I said, there were no good guys in this video anywhere.

Yes, eventually the lead officer on that arrest was arrested and charged for his actions, but nothing seems to have been done to address the failure of the Target team who were the first line of help for this disabled man. None of the customers were able to step up and offer assistance? Have we become that dispassionate that we no longer offer aid to those who need it most and a little help would have meant so much? And the police that are paid and entrusted to serve the public instead jail a developmentally slow adult because he was unable to pay for his bicycle fast enough at the self-checkout lane? No heroes anywhere.

I will link to the video again. It's not just an anti-cop video, it condems us all and that is the point I think all of us should understand. Only the cop was punished, but lots of other people were in the wrong as well.

Prior to being in law enforcement, I worked security for Target in two different states and in about 5 different stores and I can tell you that never, ever would have happened in the ones I worked at as that just sounds barbaric how that went down. I've chased, fought with, and handcuffed probably 500 shoplifters, and maybe twice there was a scene, but that was considered normal lol.

Yep, I'm H.S. class of 1979. I now live about 100 miles straight north of Staples, MN. Beautiful lake country and a great place to start over after I left the military. I was very fortunate to have my property in MN all paid for free and clear before I left the military service.

Dad lives in Milaca; my turkey sis is in Motley and one in Princeton.

It's good to hear that. I would like to think it could never happen at our local Target, or any store, in my town.

We need good people in law enforcement. Unfortunately, MN just went through that terrible murder of George Floyd a few years ago and our police support took a big hit. I remember watching that video on the news with my brother. I started immediately yelling at the TV - he's killing that guy! My brother did not see it the way I did, so I had to explain to him that as a trained RN in Mental Health, we had annual training on how to take down and SAFELY protect an aggressive patient. Everything I had been taught about take downs and restraint was being violated by the police. I also told my brother, that every one of those other officers in that incident should also be charged. I know darn well that if my nursing staff had done anything like that, we would all be looking at murder charges. No doubt in my mind.

Well, they were all charged and convicted. The main officer got over 22 years for murder and the other officers got convicted of civil rights violations.

When it comes to customer support (we the public), law enforcement officers should have the best training and response because we entrust them to carry guns.

BTW, have you seen that commercial where a nurse is 4X more likely to be assaulted on the job than a police officer? I believe that. I worked as an RN in an adult Mental Health hospital, and we averaged over 1 nurse per week getting assaulted by patients. Of course, we were dealing with highly unstable patients at times. In our training, the primary goal was to keep the patient safe, and hopefully ourselves free from injury after that. I am proud to say that we never harmed a patient while I was working, but lots of nurses got sent to the ER after some of those hands-on incidents. We took a beating at times. Those days were no fun.
